Meet Jordan Ryan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Ryan.

Hi Jordan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Since my teens and honestly, probably before that, I’ve had a passion for makeup artistry and the transformations makeup can bring. Some of my earliest memories are of putting makeup on and playing around with different beauty styles, and then at 16, I really discovered its power. A friend of mine had an important event to attend and sadly, her makeup artist canceled the day of. I happily stepped in and to everyone’s surprise, even my own, she looked amazing.

I had a knack for it but really didn’t consider doing it as a career at the time because I was on a different path. After several years of career trial and error, I took the leap. I started with MAC Cosmetics in 2013 and then worked for Charlotte Tilbury at their first Nashville location, all while balancing my freelance business. I gained so much experience and knowledge with both brands and I am very appreciative of the time I spent with them. I am the artist I am today because they helped me cultivate my craft and nurture my passions for this industry.

Over the last few years, I decided to focus all my energies on mobile makeup artistry really due to the fact we were in a global pandemic. I’ve always loved special events and the more intimate setting of bridal makeup so I answered that call. I wanted to offer more personalized appointments where I really get to know the person and enhance their natural features. And today you’ll find me doing just that.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been an uphill battle but in a very good way. I love a challenge and work best under pressure. Having to promote myself and business while I was working for major companies in the industry was a lot to juggle but the effort was worth the reward.

I was able to build a great foundation for myself and was able to branch out on my own because of it. While I now feel really happy with my growth in terms of general business and the artistry aspect of it, I currently struggle with the tech portion that is very important to growing a business today. I want to have a larger online presence which I find a challenge to do while showcasing my work in an authentic way.

Just like I strive to accentuate the natural beauty of my clientele, I want my online presence to represent the quality of my work. Navigating the super-fast, trendy, social media world is a job on its own, and I’m striving to do it all.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a Nashville-based makeup artist who appreciates everyone’s unique beauty and I love to play that up.

I specialize in bridal, event, and print artistry that highlights natural beauty with soft to full glam. I collaborate with my clients to help them achieve the perfect look they are after, and my goal is always to have them leave feeling like the most beautiful version of themselves.

I’m most proud of the fact I nurtured and grew my business while the world was in crisis and have been able to overcome many different obstacles to continue my growth.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My friends have been lending me their faces for years to practice on and build my portfolio. I have had countless supportive colleagues as well, but my grandmother has always been my biggest source of encouragement. She’s my number one fan!
