Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Alomar.
Hi Brianna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I grew up in Hallandale, FL. In between Fort Lauderdale & Miami. I was a nerdy theater kid for a long time and always loved performing/acting. It wasn’t until about the age of 10 or 11, that I needed to sing a song for the first time to audition for a play. I was absolutely horrified and dreaded having to sing in front of anyone. When I finally did, I received so much praise & encouragement from the people around me. That led me to become more confident in what I was doing and ultimately helped me realize that I had a real passion for singing. I quickly decided to put all of my energy into pursuing music instead. This was the decision that keeps on giving for me, and I am so grateful I made that choice. Around the age of 13, I wanted to create something out of my feelings & emotions and began songwriting. This is when I got my first guitar and taught myself how to play basic chords on YouTube. As I was learning the basics of guitar, I was simultaneously writing my very first songs. I used to sit down for hours and hours, trying to come up with original melodies & concepts. It didn’t come very natural to me. I wrote and practiced every day for years, and it slowly became easier & easier. At 21, songwriting is still my favorite thing to do, only it is second nature to me now.
I was 15 when I moved to Nashville. I was relentless towards my mother about making the move, and one day she finally caved in. I am really thankful that she did that for me. I began working as singer in bands downtown on Broadway almost immediately after moving. I learned how to interact with crowds, to entertain, and work with different bands. After about a year of doing that, I had peaked interest with individuals in the music industry that could help me get my name out there.
Before I knew it, I was opening for, and playing with a lot of my favorite artists in the Country Genre. One of my original songs charted on Billboard, and everything was going great.
Shortly after these experiences, the person I was working with offered my a contract that unfortunately wasn’t right for me, and I walked away.
That was really hard for me, at 16, to do, because it was like I was walking away from everything I ever wanted.
Looking back, I am proud of myself for making that decision, and can honestly say that I wasn’t ready for all of my dreams to come true just yet, even though I thought I was.
About a year later, I was playing a gig at the Nashville Airport. Jonathan Cain, a member of the band Journey, happened to be there. He listened to me pretty closely. After about an hour of listening, Jonathan came up to me and was saying the nicest things, complimenting my songwriting, voice & playing. He has been mentoring me since and has helped me in so many ways. Working with him continues to be one of the coolest experiences for me. He holds a world of knowledge. I am always learning something from him, and welcome any of his advice with “Open Arms.” Haha 😉 I am honored and grateful to work with him.
Before, when I said I wasn’t “ready” for my career to take off at 16, the reasoning behind that was because:
1. I had no idea who I was a person
&
2. I had no idea who I was as an artist.
Finding my true artistry didn’t happen that quickly. I don’t believe it does for anyone.
I am just now completely falling into it.
Now, I am so confident in who I am, and what I have to say. I feel that this had to be figured out before any kind of commitment or launch should take place with my career. I don’t regret any decisions I’ve made regarding my career, at this point.
Currently, I am almost finished with my debut pop album, and I am so proud of it. I am ecstatic to share it with anyone who will listen.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think with any kind of growth, there is struggle. Once you accept that, it helps you welcome the struggle!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an artist. Singer/songwriter. I feel that my strengths are in creating something out of nothing. I am proud of my ability to take an emotion that I have felt & turn it into something that can be relatable to other people. The ultimate goal is to connect to others. We are all so much more similar than we think, and often, art helps us realize that. I know that I am not the only one who approaches music this way, but I do know that my intentions set me apart from the masses.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Something that I’ve learned due to the Covid-19 crisis is that having time to sit with your thoughts is not a bad thing. The world that we are in can be so hectic & tiring. Society and culture can be so persuasive in leading us into false beliefs & identities. Having real-time to discover your purest & truest self is incredibly valuable.
