Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Hungate.
Hi Lauren, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I went to a small liberal arts college called: Lee University and studied music business. I graduated in 2016 and moved to Nashville. I worked in the industry for 2 years before taking the leap to start writing songs full time. I quit my job in August 2019 and signed my publishing deal in 2021.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
definitely not. It is the easiest and hardest job in the world.
Easy, because it is so, so fulfilling and fun to create something out of thin air. Hard, because there are no guarantees that you’ll succeed so keeping your head down and working hard despite that is always a big hurdle. I struggled so much with comparison my first year and trying to write songs that sounded more like the radio.
When you lean into what your strengths are or your style you’ll write better songs.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a songwriter, I love writing in all genres. But I primarily love the writing country. I’m really most proud of the group of people I’ve surrounded myself with. I think my friends are the most talented people in the world.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Love the Nashville community, there’s nothing like it. Hate Nashville politics when it comes to the music business.
