Meet Ashley Hunker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Hunker. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Sure! Hunker Goods started 6 years ago when Denton was on the road full time as a touring musician with his band, Green River Ordinance. Denton made himself his first duffel bag as a way to have luggage that stood out when traveling.

After Ashley and Denton married, she joined the team as Creative Director. Together, they now create, design, and handmade all of Hunker Goods’ leather and canvas products.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Running a small business is always a bumpy road. Redefining who you are with a rebrand, creating new products, and trying to niche down can be a challenge. We rebranded in 2021, which helped the business grow substantially.

However, the transition was no easy task. It often takes your audience a little while to adjust to the new brand. For us, it was worth the wait.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We specialize in leather and canvas handmade goods inspired by old Americana.

Our designs are all inspired by old designs from the 40s, 30s, and turn of the century. We want to withhold the old-world craftsmanship of bag making, clothing, and more. We hand-cut, rivet, and sew each bag, which gives it unique characteristics to each product.

Just like your grandfather’s old work bag that’s lasted generations – our goods will do the same. When you buy from us, it not only supports small businesses, you’re taking something home you can pass down for generations to come. That’s what old Americana goods are all about.

What do you think about happiness?
Creating a business that we love feeds our soul. We love waking up every morning, walking to our shop, and creating something that inspires us and our customers.
