Exploring Life & Business with Glenn Carter of Carter’s Family Florist

Today we’d like to introduce you to Glenn Carter.

Hi Glenn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a 3rd Generation Business Owner. My Grandfather opened the first flower shop in St. Louis, MO. He eventually taught my father who later moved back to his college town of Nashville, TN to open another Flower Shop in 1998. So, essentially, I’ve been around Flowers for over 35yrs. I worked in corporate America upon graduating College in 2009 only to find that wasn’t the life for me. Flowers were always in my future!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Like anything, without struggle, there is no progress! It hasn’t always been smooth. Being a Black Man in the Florist industry has its setbacks. Many look to my Caucasian counterparts to conduct business before contacting me not realizing that I’ve serviced the Middle Tennessee area for over 23yrs. However, Good Product sells itself! My existing customers through word of mouth & social media have allowed my business to flourish in ways I could have never imagined and I’m forever grateful!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
You should know that we are a locally Black Owned & Operated Flower Shop in Nashville & Clarksville, TN. Servicing Middle Tennessee since 1998. We have flowers & plants for all occasions! Funerals, Weddings, Valentines, Mother’s Day, Get Well Soon, Just Because, etc. Our great product speaks for itself! What sets us apart is that this business is generational and isn’t just a hobby or a fly-by-night business created for hype! I’m most proud that I have a business to pass down to my children and I pray that it will continue for generations to come!

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Legacy! And being able to provide for my Family Forever!
