Today we’d like to introduce you to Cannon and Emmie Kinnard.
Hi Cannon and Emmie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
In 2019, my wife and I went through so much cold brew that our beloved daily ritual was economically crippling. And then the pandemic began. We couldn’t get the goods. So, I started making cold brew myself. We tested about a hundred different roasted beans that we could access in bulk. We tasted them all, experimenting with every aspect of the brewing process in order to achieve a result that we both enjoyed. We quickly realized that to make a delicious cold brew, the green beans themselves must be high quality. Luckily, one of my best friends is a green bean coffee trader down in New Orleans – the coffee port of the free world. After he gave us some sample green beans and introduced us to our roaster, we were hooked. We have sourced our green beans directly from him ever since. Once we realized that we had never tasted better cold brew, we turned it into a business that was unique and filled a void. The pandemic opened the doors for delivery businesses, and we modeled our business after the milkman. We value sustainability and so we give our customers a 2-liter glass pop-top growler that we refill with fresh draft cold brew every Monday. We’ve been going strong since October and look forward to also placing our coffee in restaurants and other local businesses throughout 2022.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Our biggest challenge so far has been timing – we launched a cold coffee business at the very beginning of winter. Fortunately, we have amazing customers who love cold brew year-round!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Can Do Cold Brew?
At Can Do Cold Brew, we offer small batch cold brew delivered right to your front door.
Why choose Can Do Cold Brew?
The answer is simple: Taste & Sustainability
We offer the best-tasting cold brew coffee available in Nashville. More importantly, it is made with the least amount of waste possible for any coffee company, anywhere. Our careful approach to steeping beans has been cultivated over time to ensure that we prioritize our flavor profile and caffeination to give you the best cup of cold brew that Nashville can offer.
Taste
We prioritize four main qualities to achieving the perfect brew: A great bean, a thoughtful roast, a scientific approach to the water used, and careful consideration in steeping the ground beans.
At Can-Do we have a personal relationship with the Honduran farmer who grows our beans. Unlike most coffee shops, we have seen our beans while they were still flourishing fresh and green on the trees.
Pedro, our supplier, grows his beans at an ideal altitude above 3,900 feet high in the Honduran mountains. He harvests the beans, packs them into burlap sacks, and ships them to the port of New Orleans. From there, our beans travel down the road to our partner roaster. All of our beans are roasted on a century-old machine that imprints its own unique but vibrantly toasted flavor.
We use reverse osmosis alkaline water that rounds out the taste of our small batch beans and balances the acidity for a strong cup of caffeine that isn’t hard on your stomach.
Sustainability
From the farm in Honduras to the port in New Orleans, and all the way to Nashville, our beans are never tainted by a container that isn’t sustainable to the environment. Our cold brew will never touch plastic – period. We brew in stainless steel tanks and store our coffee in nitrogenized kegs. Your cold brew coffee is brought to your doorstep exclusively in our signature 2-liter glass bottles. No other coffee company in Nashville can claim the same!
Our cold brew tastes brilliant black but also plays well with cream, milk, oat milk, and other alternatives. No matter what your coffee ritual entails, you will not be disappointed.
Our favorite part about our brew is the Can-Do attitude you get from just a couple of sips.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
We have been working on a prototype for a cold brew kegerator and are excited to get draft Can Do placed in your favorite local restaurants and bars! We also hope to offer a pickup location for our customers that currently live outside our delivery radius. As far as the cold brew industry goes, we see it going nowhere– Every day, 64% of Americans drink at least one cup of coffee. That’s roughly 225 million people. Whether it’s brewed at home, from a local coffee shop, from an international chain, or from a workplace Keurig, over half of the country has a coffee ritual they follow every morning. That’s never going to change, and the number of cold brew drinkers is rapidly expanding.
