Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Lucca.
Hi Tony, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I basically started out as a kid in a garage band from the suburbs of Detroit, plucked from obscurity to become a child actor and entertainer on Disney’s All-New Mickey Mouse Club. After working side by side with some of pop culture’s soon-to-be biggest icons (Justin Timberlake, Brittney Spears, Keri Russell, and Ryan Gosling) I moved to Los Angeles to continue living the dream, starring in an Aaron Spelling/NBC prime time drama called Malibu Shores.
After a few indie films and several commercials, I decided to focus entirely on writing and recording music. I celebrated my independent debut release, “So Satisfied” in 1997, and have now followed that up with another 10 full-length albums to date. In 2012, I placed third as Team Adam (Levine’s) finalist on NBC’s The Voice before signing a deal with Adam’s 222 Record label and touring in support of Kelly Clarkson and Maroon 5.
In 2013, I returned to my independent artist status and relocated my family to Nashville where I immersed myself in the greater Nashville songwriter community while fostering a deeper connection with my fans in both the live and virtual spaces. During the pandemic of 2020, I launched the Mo’Verb Lounge Sessions, a bi-monthly ticketed Livestream recording session, welcoming guests such as American Idol winner, Kris Allen, and NSYNC founding member, Chris Kirkpatrick.
I enjoy a wonderful 15-year marriage to my wife, Rachel with 2 great kids (son, Liam, and daughter, Sparrow) and a sweet dog named Apple.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
it’s been pretty smooth for the most part. in truth I kind of struggle with the idea of “struggle” at all.
I would say the most challenging times though have been when it was time to grow and push harder than I had before. Difficult conversations. Severed relationships. Finding the courage to initiate and assert myself better.
To articulate my convictions and refine my intention. These have all come at a cost but have no doubt afforded me a great many things in the end.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a songwriter, I feel like my most rewarding work arrives when I’m best able to tap into and convey emotions that most people are familiar with but aren’t always able to articulate themselves.
I always aspire to write and record music that I connect to completely. Of course, I have fallen short of that aspiration more than a few times and learned a great deal in the process.
Although I love to butcher the occasional impersonation and tend to emulate some of my heroes, I feel I have a pretty singular voice in that there aren’t too many other singers that sound much like me. I suppose that’s something that sets me apart.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Simply remaining “open” to the idea that there are infinite things you can stand to learn from others will often bring those whom you need to learn from most, directly into your path.
Proceed with humility. With awe and respect. Enough can not be said about the power of community.
Networking helps us practice grace and compassion, how to represent ourselves more compellingly, and how celebrate the little victories and serendipities of our progress and growth, as well as the progress and growth of others.
