Rising Stars: Meet Camden Morris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Camden Morris.

Hi Camden, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
As a first-generation college student and a former foster care youth, it hasn’t always been easy. Becoming a part of Nashville and Belmont’s community is something that came easy. I’m someone who loves fitness and is a former two-sport collegiate athlete. Some of the many hats I wear are Royal International Miss- Role Model (an international pageant system), an entrepreneur, a model, and a journalist. I started pageants around 16 years old with my local high school pageant, Miss Collinwood and I have went on to compete at Miss TN USA and now hold an international title. Pageants inspired me to start modeling. This past September, I modeled for three designers at New York Fashion Week. Around the same time, I started pageants is when my hair and makeup business began, Glam by Cam. Besides glamming up myself and others, I’m an aspiring journalist. I’ve interviewed players from the Atlanta Falcons to your favorite Belmont professor. I am currently an intern reporter at The Belmont Vision. I firmly believe in, “It’s not where you come from, but where you are going.” I hope to continue to inspire others at every stage of life.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Everyone has a story and everyone struggles. Mine started from a young age, being in foster care and raised by my grandparents I experienced a unique childhood. My grandparents inspire me daily, to become the best version of myself and to continue to break glass ceilings. Growing up facing these struggles showed me that I had to put in the work to succeed. If you asked 11-year-old me where I would be at 20 years old, I wouldn’t have said here. I never believed I’d go to college much less play collegiate sports or end up at Belmont. Belmont was always a dream for me but never seemed achievable. Did I ever think I’d walk a New York Fashion Week runway or have a collegiate championship ring? No, not in a million years. As a 5’3 girl from a small town in Tennessee and someone who started playing soccer at 14, I’ve already made that 11-year-old version of me really proud.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
An international titleholder, a model, a journalist, a makeup artist, an athlete. It’s seemingly impossible to pick one title. I have many passions, goals, and dreams. I’m an aspiring broadcast journalist who has a love for fashion, entertainment, and sports. Whether it’s writing, creating content, or being in front of the camera, I love being able to tell a small part of someone’s journey. Maybe that’s why I enjoy modeling, being in front of the camera has always been something that I love. Through modeling and pageantry, I have started coaching girls, doing hair and make-up, through Glam by Cam. There’s something so special about seeing confidence radiate from these girls when they feel like their best self.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Some of the challenges I’ve faced throughout my childhood. Many friends I’ve made at college are surprised when they hear my story. People see someone on social media who models, does pageants, an athlete and you don’t really see the person behind the photo. Social media makes things look seemingly perfect when in reality they’re not. Everyone struggles, including me. Something we’ve seen a lot of this year is mental health struggles, in pageant titleholders, collegiate athletes, and people you pass by on the street. These people seem to have everything together, Cheslie Kryst, Katie Meyer, and Zoe Sozo Bethel. Three accomplished women, who took their own life. I think it’s important to look deeper behind the photos and the accomplishments.
