Daily Inspiration: Meet Denita Gibbs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Denita Gibbs. 

Hi Denita, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am originally from Birmingham, AL, now residing in Nashville, TN. I have been singing for along time in my life. At a particular moment, there was this man by the name of Dr. Henry Panion who is the CEO and Founder of Audiostate55 Entertainment Company in Birmingham, AL  that recognized the gift and offered me a record deal. I recorded my first professional record in 2013, my album charted at  No. 14 on the Billboard Gospel charts and several other outlets and the recognization  opened more doors for me to travel around the world to minister to God’s people. As a child,  I knew something was different about me at 12 years old when my seven siblings and parents would have movie nights. Instead of me staying and watching them with my family; I would get up and leave because I did not want with viewing those movies to contaminate my spirit… LOL, so I choose to go to my room and pray. It was through prayer, I learned that life is all about worshiping God and coming to the realization that my “Yes” to God would cost me. Later in life, I experienced so many life obstacles, but it was God and my music that kept me going.

As a singer, songwriter, and artist. My songs are birthed through prayer and are expressions of my personal testimony of God’s power. My music ministry has led me to various arenas and opening performances for various artists but mainly Christian and Gospel genres.  “Worship is my life.” My passion is to use my music ministry to lift up and edify the name of Jesus and lead others to him everywhere I go.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth at all!

It’s been rough! I’m like God can I get a break! I got tired of being told, I didn’t have what it take  to be in the music industry with being a certain weight size, and along with going through my personal insecurities and life challenges, I was facing at the time.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a full-time Worship Leader/Worship Pastor  at the New Season Church, Nashville, TN. I work weekly with the praise and worship team/musicians in rehearsals with preparing songs for Sunday Morning Worship. I meet with them for intercessory prayer at 10am on Sundays. Also, I am a full-time National Gospel Recording Artist traveling from state to state and city to city when invited singing about the good news of Jesus Christ and encouraging the sick, the lost, the depressed people that is in despair.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was an outgoing, very silly, and outspoken individual.
