Meet Patsy Climax

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patsy Climax.

Hi Patsy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been performing on stage since I was 4 years old. After high school, I moved to NYC to study musical theater. After graduating from a musical theater conservatory, I worked off-Broadway in NY for several years. Financial issues caused me to move back to Nashville in 2017, where I joined a cabaret troupe. In this troupe, I sang and did comedy bits between magic tricks and burlesque numbers. One day, one of the performers (Ginger Oh Snap, look her up, she’s amazing) told me that I could do burlesque and sing at the same time. This would give me the opportunity to sing much more often! So, I created two “nerdlesque” (nerd + burlesque) acts for a local comic convention. I debuted there with two sing and strip acts as different pop culture characters and I was a big hit. So, I kept going. I created my signature act, “Everybody’s Girl” which is a sing and strip act to a lesser-known Kander and Ebb song. This act in particular has taken me to shows and burlesque festivals all over the country. Asheville, Columbus, New Orleans, Knoxville, Louisville, Chicago, Dayton, and many more cities. I even got to perform this signature act for Dolly Parton at The Smoky Mountain Burlesque Festival in 2019. Currently, I am on a mini-tour with two of my sing and strip acts.

While touring performing burlesque, I also found a love for emceeing shows. I’ve had the pleasure of slinging my jokes at many shows around the country. Now, I even teach my two main skills in virtual and in-person classes. (Host with the Most: The Basics of Being a Good Emcee and Sexy Multitasking: A Sing and Strip Workshop). I also teach one-on-one voice and sing and strip lessons during my travels. I love mentoring new singing strippers and helping them find the confidence to sing in public.

In 2018 I created a live event production company, Razorglam Productions. In 2019 we produced 12 burlesque shows at The Barbershop Theater in The Nations neighborhood. These shows were on the underground/experimental side of burlesque, especially since most of Nashville burlesque is very classic inspired. In 2020 we, of course, had to pivot. So, we created 6 virtual burlesque shows featuring performers from all over the country. In 2022 we finally came back to The Barbershop Theater with two shows in February. They were featured in the Nashville Scene’s “Best of” list and were huge successes.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
2020 was definitely a struggle for everyone, especially live performers. Gigs dried up and my production company was completely on hold for a while. Luckily, the community was able to move many things online and continue making art.

In late 2020 I also had a personal situation that lead to Razorglam Productions nearly ending completely. I lost one-half of my production team and a lot of my confidence in creating art. In 2022 my showbiz friends Ginger Oh Snap and Maxx Damage helped me revive Razorglam.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am known for sing and strip acts and being an emcee. I trained as a musical theater artist earlier in life, so it is really great to use those skills now in burlesque. I use my singing training, obviously, to set myself apart by using singing in my burlesque acts. My improv and comedy background helps with emceeing, and I have been given many rave reviews as an emcee.

What do you think about luck?
I don’t know if I believe in luck or not. However, I have been able to overcome any “bad luck” I have come across with the help of the community.
