Rising Stars: Meet Emily Myers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Myers.

Hi Emily, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Years after I left home, my brother told me that he used to warn his friends before they came over that he had a sister who sang. Loudly. Constantly. I was embarrassed hearing his childhood story, but it was true. My career started in Jefferson City, MO, memorizing the latest country record and writing bad lyrics I hoped would one day be part of my own album. My stereo was my prize possession and my orange walled room was my stage. I took piano, voice, guitar, dance… every lesson I could to be part of music. I began leading worship at church and starring in local theater. I went on to pursue opera at Oklahoma City University but quickly realized that style of music was not the right fit so I began sharing my original music with anyone who would listen and decided then to pursue songwriting full time, which led me to where I am today. After years of traveling to Nashville for work, I finally made the decision to relocate… in the middle of a pandemic. I immediately was welcomed into the songwriter community and have not only learned so much from my fellow musicians but made incredible friends. I can now look back and tell the girl who started singing songs in her bedroom that she is living the life she always hoped she would be.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s never easy pursuing your dreams. There are days that are filled with doubt and uncertainty. But the main thing I’ve learned and tried to implement is to figure out what makes you unique and run with it. I am writing and performing music now that feels more like me than it ever has. Getting to a point where I embraced that has been a difficult road but so worth it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a singer-songwriter, known to traverse styles all the way from Country-Pop to heartfelt piano ballads. Deeply rooted in my music is the art of storytelling, focusing on the themes of self-discovery, love, faith, and lessons we encounter throughout life.

My next single, ‘Unwrite Every Song,’ comes out — May 13th and is the title track to an EP that will follow later this year. This song questions if you would rather not have the negative experiences of heartbreak and grief in life even if it means there wouldn’t be inspiration for the songs written. It is a song that perfectly represents who I am in this season of writing and highlights both the detailed, hope-filled storytelling and the soaring vocals that defines my music.

This EP will be released alongside a new business venture I started last year writing custom songs for everyday people. It has been a joy to connect with fans of my music and give back by writing songs about the stories and people that have mattered most in their life. I have written songs celebrating their biggest milestones from weddings to graduations to anniversaries and all the intimate, beautiful moments in between.

In both this new music and business, my mission is to share the inspiration I find in everyday stories. What makes someone laugh. Cry. Persevere. I create music to give these stories the opportunity to reveal our deep similarities and learn from our stark differences. It is the passion of my life and I am honored to share it with those willing to listen.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Last year I asked a group of loved ones how they would describe me and the three words that came back were resilient, joyful, and passionate. I think that basically sums me up. I have always believed in doing the work and continuing to keep going no matter what life throws at you. I choose to have hope and believe in spreading positivity. And I am passionate about the music I create and the people I create with and for. I am an open book and try to live as authentically as I can.
