Check Out Veronica King-Cunningham’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Veronica King-Cunningham. 

Hi Veronica, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi, I’m Veronica. You can call me Vee. 

Ever since I can remember, I’ve been a self-proclaimed “doodler.” From the time I could pass notes to my friends in school, I would color and draw personal touches to make my notes feel special and unique. In fact, I still have a lot of these notes, and have collected them all the way through college! 

Then, in 2017, a woman in my church retired from designing Birthday “lovelines” (aka postcards) for members in our congregation and a search was on for a team to replace her. I remember thinking “I love to encourage people, and I love to color/draw/design – I could totally do that!” Thus began my journey into falling in love with modern hand-lettering and calligraphy. 

After learning and growing (while designing hundreds of hand-lettered postcards a month!) I started my own Instagram Page to catalog my hand-lettered creations and gifts. From there, I taught Hand Lettering 101 courses and discovered digital design. 

I found my niche in designing whimsically crafted printables and started The Letter Vee. I offer a printable subscription and an online storefront that includes anywhere from gift tags and cards, to coloring pages, pennants, and wall decor. 

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It’s not been easy transferring my knowledge of lettering into a digital space and learning how to run a website, market myself, or sustain a membership revolving around digital design, but I’ve had a great support system! It helps that I love what I do! It can get overwhelming at times, but when I see others share the magic they create with my prints, it solidifies that I’m right where I need to be. 

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in hand-lettered printables. I’m known more for adding my lettering in with designs for everyday life and celebrations. I am most proud of the community that has been built out of this passion – mamas who use the prints to celebrate everyday magic and crafts with their families loved ones sharing gift tags and meaningful handwritten notes, or someone who displays my art in their home or collaborates with me to showcase my design on clothing, woodwork, and even cookies! Every I design is with heart and intention. 

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I am a mom of 6, wife of a pastor, and run two businesses at the same time! People may not know that my writing/design style can change depending on the art I’m creating, but I can spot my distinctive personality in my lettering.
