Meet Sabrina Ruff of The Mink Lash Factory

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina Ruff. 

Hi Sabrina, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello! My name is Sabrina Ruff. I am from Memphis, Tennessee, but I’ve been in Nashville ever since 2016. I always have had a passion for the beauty industry, and I started my business back in 2018 specializing in eyelashes. After being frustrated with being unable to find timeless, quality lashes, cosmetics, and accessories at a fair price, I decided to take matters into my own hands. My goal is to be innovative and bring only the most interesting and conversation-worthy cosmetics and accessories to my store. It wasn’t until 2020, when we all started staying home for quarantine, that I really got serious about my business. That’s when I created my website, printed some new branding materials, and started to take full advantage of social media to get the word out about my products. It took a lot of hard work and dedication to get to where I am today, but I know my future in this business is looking bright! 

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I first started my business, I had to overcome a lot of obstacles. The biggest one was having limited access to capital, limited access to business networks, and limited opportunity for business skills development. As an entrepreneur, you have to learn how to finance your business from your own out-of-pocket expenses—and that includes learning everything you need to know about the industry you’re in through research. Nowadays, I’m always monitoring my competitors and learning new things that will benefit me as a black business owner. 

We’ve been impressed with The Mink Lash Factory LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Mink Lash Factory LLC specialize in false eyelashes, cosmetics, and accessories. The Mink Lash Factory is known for proving high-quality products at an affordable price. I’m most proud of my retuning customers. Owning a brand that people are so passionate about that they come back time and time again makes my heart smile. It’s just so rewarding to see people so excited about something I created. 

My favorite part about being an entrepreneur is the journey. My faith has definitely guided me along the way. I’m learning to be grateful for little things as my company continues to grow. In addition to running The Mink Lash Factory’s online store, we also supply wholesale customers who want to start their own lash business. We offer lower prices for bulk orders and custom packaging options. 

Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I think taking risks are necessary. I would rather take a risk and try than have to wonder about it later. I’ve taken several risks before, and I’ve always been glad I did. For example, I once bought over 10,000 worth of inventory, not knowing if it was going to sell or not. But I knew that if I applied myself the sales would come—and they did! That’s why I believe in my plan so much. I also think that you have to be calculated about taking certain risks. I wouldn’t advise anyone to take a risk that will jeopardize their livelihood without the proper planning.
