Today we’d like to introduce you to Mad Mauves.
Hi Mad, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Uhhh, truthfully, it started from my guy Chuck Indigo and I just getting back to hanging out when I was fresh out of college and he was started to really get serious on his music and one day he turned to me and said “Bruh, you have one of the most diverse music tastes I’ve ever heard and it’s good s**t.
Bruh you should DJ. You should be my DJ” and from there I told him to give me 3 months when I get my DJ deck and I got you. A little over a month and a half passed and he was at the crib, at the time, in his studio set up and he hit me up to pull up and I had my DJ equipment on me and I just remember how it was my first time spinning and anybody hearing it and how it all made sense.
At the time, I hadn’t had a DJ name or anything but I knew that I was good at it and it was something that felt like it made sense. Fast forward, I now live aesthetically through the ways I capture those feelings from that night through sight & sound as madmauves.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Haha is anything ever really smooth when you tryna perfect it?
Nah, but it has been worth it! Like, I fell deeply into an identity crisis/existential crisis once the branding actually started to click and people were buying into the brand madmauves.
And I stopped being called my name and I just became madmauves to a lot of people and being at functions hearing the “Yo when you spinning again” or “What’s the next project”. It made me feel like I was only a product and was only valuable as a product.
But we people. We are way more than that.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I work in IT doing application support in my regular life haha. All my other minutes I’m probably listening to music or watching a film. I’m forever busy doing something. I quietly just live.
What does success mean to you?
Success is a self-paced thing.
We determine our own success, no matter what outside source we have we ultimately choose what we see as success. For me, success will be having the resources to prioritize rest and my dream kitchen, haha.
