Today we’d like to introduce you to Sahara Moon.
Hi Sahara, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My musical journey began on the streets of Long Beach Island in New Jersey in 2016. I sang to the passerby on the street outside of an art gallery and performed for open mic often. Much of my inspiration stemmed from my younger sister, Zinnia Moon, who is also a singer-songwriter, and together, we grew up in a musical household.
Because I played music throughout my local community frequently, my name began to spread upon conversation. I quickly built up a fanbase and a full-time gig schedule which consisted of at least one hundred shows per year. Soon enough, I was traveling the tri-state region to perform my music, and I began opening up the stage for national touring artists.
I have had the pleasure to share the stage with Robert Cray Band, Blackberry Smoke, The Marshall Tucker Band, Stephen Kellogg, and Nick Perri & The Underground Thieves to name a few. I released my first single, “New York,” in 2018 which was followed up in 2020 with my EP, Worthy. I also am the founder & curator of The Sunshine Series which is a showcase that strives to create a unique experience for listeners all while discovering the latest talent.
More recently, I have relocated to Nashville, TN to further my musical endeavors throughout the southern states. I will be performing for the Mayday Music Festival in New York alongside The Spin Doctors, Deer Tick, Crash Test Dummies, Dave Hause & The Mermaid, and The Smithereens. In addition, I will be performing for the Let’s Go! Music Festival in Maryland alongside Billy Currington, Michael Ray, LANCO, Lindsey Ell, and Chase Bryant.
I am grateful for all of the experiences I have had since I first picked up my guitar, and I am excited to see what the future brings. I would not be where I am today without the support and love from my family and all of the people who have inspired me along the way.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I strongly believe that anything worthwhile will always have its challenges.
An all-time favorite lyric of mine is Brandi Carlile’s “the road on which I’ve traveled is as long as it is cracked.” I have discovered that success can be defined in hundreds of ways and every artist will shape their own road full of surprises.
Some of the challenges that I face include the funding of a record. At the beginning of 2022, I introduced my fans to my Patreon which funds my creative process and my next recording project to help offset some of the financial challenges I face.
I am a fully independent artist, so all of the recording, pre-production, marketing, and touring costs come directly out of my pocket. The amount of support I have received and continue to receive is substantial and allows me to keep doing what I do best.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in live performance and vocal and guitar techniques. I am often found performing with my guitar pedal board which was handcrafted by my Dad, Stephen Moon. I also added my own flare to the pedalboard by detailing the front of it with a wood-burning tool.
I am best known for captivating an audience and for my guitar work that complements my voice. I am proud of the time I have invested into my craft and my ongoing dedication to doing better. I put large amounts of time and thought into any performance no matter how big or small. What sets me apart from others is having a smile when singing my songs.
My passion also shines through not only on stage but even when setting up a space for a performance. All the way from decorating the stage to perfecting the layout of my cables. I have a keen eye for presentation, and I strive to give fans the best experience I am capable.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
