Check Out Ramona Amos Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ramona Amos.

Hi Ramona, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?

Throughout high school if you would have asked me what was going to be my career path, without hesitation I would have said to become a neonatologist. As a preemie baby weighing only 1 pound 12 1/4 ounces at birth due to my mom not being able to carry babies well, I wanted to be able to give back and help others in the area of neonatology. However, after human physiology class in college I quickly realized dissecting animals and blood were not of interest to me at all.

My last year in college, a dean asked me the question, “What are you going to do after college?” He suggested a graduate degree in sociology to become a social worker. We discussed my college career and all of my involvement in extracurricular activities.  He suggested a career in student life. From this conversation, I learned the importance of transferable skills as I was able to still help others. It was a career I never considered or thought of as an option. After obtaining my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology I went on to graduate school at Marquette University to earn a Master of  Educational Policy & Leadership with an emphasis in College Student Personnel.

As a student affairs professional, I worked in the areas of First Year Experience, Student Activities, Multicultural Affairs, and Student Leadership. The last few years of my student affairs career before making a pivot in life, I was in charge of multicultural affairs and student leadership. In my role, I planned campus-wide events and created leadership opportunities for students. I thrived in my career and absolutely loved my job. But in September 2017, I had just given birth to my youngest daughter and my mom was very ill. It was then that I made the difficult decision to resign from my career and care for my family. Present-day, I still get to do what I love by providing others with the services of event planning, gift curating, large game rentals, and business consultation.

My husband, Quentin, was one of my biggest supporters during the time of caring for my mother. It was a learning experience for him as well. He had to balance his career in information technology while managing our forever changing home life. As a loving spouse, he really took on the supportive role. We both learned more about ourselves and capabilities during that period in our lives. As a result, we want to be a support to others who may be going through similar life events.

We now also offer life coaching services in the areas of:

-caregiving support

-health as it relates to autoimmune disease

-career development

-,and relationship coaching.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have quickly learned with entrepreneurship that the road is not smooth. But despite the potholes, sharp curves, and hilly paths along the way it is still worth the journey. After mom’s demise, my family and I relocated to the Nashville area. Right away I went after my dreams and participated in my first bridal expo with my husband Quentin by my side. What sets us apart from others in our field is that we offer a service that very few (if any) provides, which is creating a creative space for kids at events such as weddings. We had 23 brides interested in our event planning and gift curating services. Then…you guessed it – the pandemic happened. We were not able to book any of those clients. As a result, we pivoted our business “The All Set Company” and dba “I Thee Gifts” and started concentrating more on our already existing products which were our suitcase-style decorative storage boxes and Kid Activity Sets (themed arts & crafts, educational games, and activities in our reusable decorative storage box). In February of 2021, we launched our own decorative storage box designs and sold out of our all-white set of 3 and red set of 3 decorative storage box collections. Then in November of 2021, we launched our red/white/blue, pink, and autumn/Fall collections and our luggage tag line. Now in 2022, we have resumed event planning services again.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
As an event planner, I bring over a decade of experience planning events for colleges and universities, friends, and family. I pay attention to details and the overall big picture. We have partnered with Kids Parties Plus, a large game rental service company to provide our clients with the ultimate entertainment package. We are the Tennessee distributors of Kid Parties Plus www.kidspartiesplus.com.  As gift curators, we curate gifts for many occasions for babies, kids, youth, and adults. For adults, we specialize in curating gifts for life events. At “The All Set Company” we believe, “Don’t be ordinary, when can be extraordinary.” That’s why booking with us is always a great choice as we will offer excellent customer service, professionalism, and go above and beyond to bring the client’s vision to life.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I have always had a vivid imagination. As a child, I used to tell my mom many of my business ideas. She would give me tips, show me examples of great customer service, and provide encouragement for me to reach all my goals. Back in the early 1990s, I remember the parking attendant at the bank always wore a nice suit. His hair was always well-groomed, and he always greeted everyone with a hello and smile making everyone feel welcomed as they entered the parking structure. My mom used to always say to me, “see, Ramona? This is how you should always represent yourself.”  It was at that moment she taught me to always dress for success and treat others kindly. This was just one of many experiences I recall as a child that has shaped me into the entrepreneur and person that I am today.
