Today we’d like to introduce you to Dalton Hidalgo.
Hi Dalton, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
First off I would like to thank you for inviting me to do this interview and I really appreciate the opportunity! My name is Dalton Hidalgo. I’m 24 years old and I was born and raised in the middle Tennessee area. I began creating fragrances a few years ago. But my love for fragrances has been ongoing my entire life. I remember going into all the stores in my area and smelling fragrances and just being mesmerized. Thinking how someone can create an entire smell and it is so beautiful. I always enjoyed smelling nature as well. How everything has its own distinct smell. I was always curious how the process went off creating a perfume so I began my own research. Everything from reading perfumery books, watching YouTube videos, and just reading all the processes that go into creating a fragrance. Once I became somewhat comfortable I started buying materials and equipment. And like with anything else in life I just went for it. Started experimenting. A lot of trial and error and learning about all the materials. Over time it really grew into something and I found a true passion for it that transformed into Hidalgo Fragrance.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Never a smooth road. If it can go wrong it will go wrong. I wouldn’t want it any other way. I enjoy the hardships and the times of discouragement. I feel that’s what brings out the best in you. It shows how much you care and really want something. Everything from legal matters, to building a website, and taking months and months to perfect a formula. It all goes wrong somewhere and it’s ok. Would it really be worth it if something didn’t go wrong along the way?
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I own Hidalgo Fragrance. It is an independent, small-batch fragrance house. The entire process is done by me.
From creating the formula, making batches, bottling, packaging, and shipping.
I am hands-on with the entire process. I control all social media which reaches people from all over the world. A couple of my favorite things about owning this brand is meeting new people. From all corners of the globe, I have created real relationships. People that have a similar passion for fragrance turned into people I truly get along with.
The other thing I love most about perfumery is transitioning that idea into a complete fragrance. Seeing it from start to finish and tweaking it along the way. Every material was added. Every little thing that is done to it you’re in charge of. Creating an entire fragrance all from thought. I believe fragrances are a way to tell stories. All of my fragrances are from personal experiences in my life and there is no better feeling than sharing those stories through fragrance.
What does success mean to you?
Success is from within. No amount of money, fame or material items can show success. I want others to enjoy my fragrances. I want them to bring happiness to others and see others enjoy wearing them. I measure my success on how I can change the world, my community, and someone else’s life. It’s always more to success than just money.
