Community Highlights: Meet Brea Sharron Estep of Brea Sharron Fitness & Integrative Health

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brea Sharron Estep.

Hi Brea, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Whew, loaded question: “Growing up in North Carolina, I was always active dancing my way from age three to college, with a few other sports sprinkled in, my parents always made sure we were as healthy as they knew how, making my brother and I eat our vegetables, drink milk, only buy wheat bread, only allowing very limited soda and sweets as a “treat.”

Around my junior year of high school, I started having back pain and saw about ten different doctors and specialists until my regular MD prescribed me, prescription pain killers, daily. During my senior year, I was recommended for ADD/ADHD testing, which I apparently passed with flying colors, and was put on another prescription.

Which lead to an anti-depressant and an anti-anxiety prescription just to be safe (somewhat fortunately I never remembered and didn’t really care to take those). Throughout college, I continued on the ADD/ADHD prescriptions as well as the prescription pain killers, then yet another doctor added in birth control to make my periods more manageable.

In my early twenties, I began personal training and competing in fitness shows and realized it probably wasn’t a good thing to “need” medicine to pay attention and/or prescription narcotics daily to get going, and birth control never made my periods more manageable anyways, so I managed to use prescriptions only as needed. Looking back, although fitness shows are nowhere near healthy, especially staying that lean by being low fat, low carb, and high protein and loaded with artificial sweeteners for over five years.

I did I realized how much better I felt cutting out refined sugars and preservatives. Over the years, I was challenged to take out artificial sweeteners and noticed a tremendous difference in my body aches, energy, and digestive issues, which lead me to research true all-natural health even deeper and create a passion after my “healthy” father passed away from cancer in his early 50s.

Fast forward a few years to helping take care of my dad and watching him suffer through his battle with cancer, 20 some fitness shows running a personal training studio full time, school full time, years of low carb diets, and multiple workouts per day, and ending up gaining 30 pounds in three months while still working out and eating “healthy.’ I hurt; physically, mentally, and emotionally. I was miserable, I was embarrassed, I hated what I saw in the mirror, I was the health guru that couldn’t lose weight.

Fast forward again to now and through becoming an Integrative Health Practitioner I’ve learned to manage the internal and external stress on my body in order to rebalance it “holistically,” no longer take any medicine, maintain my ideal weight with ease, have drastically improved my digestion and mood as well am mostly pain-free (despite some self-inflicted pain from pretty tough workouts)!”

After healing myself it’s been my mission to help others in my Integrative Health practice. In addition, I’m working to prevent all the “problems” I see in my integrative health work through my nonprofit Youth Fitness Link aimed at building health positive relationships on the inside and out to combat adolescent obesity and teach healthy lifestyle choices.

Which just so happens to be my platform in pageantry where I am the reigning Mrs. United States

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all, I mentioned a lot previously but the years of doctors, diagnosed disease, and drugs-prescription of course” hit me hard, along with dealing with chronic pain and thyroid/adrenal/hormone issues.

However, I think the hardest part was mental not knowing where to go, what to do, or who to trust…

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Brea Sharron Fitness & Integrative Health?
I help overwhelmed women put the missing pieces together to reduce stress illuminate their beauty inside out and FINALLY get their health and body back, holistically!

I run functional medicine labs to find the underlying root cause of the body “disease” by eliminating toxicities and replacing deficiencies while working through the DESTRESS protocol with clients- Diet, Exercise, Stress Reduction,
Toxin Removal, Rest, Emotional Balance, Supplementation and Success Mindset/Spirituality.

I’m most proud of my clients and all the hard work they do putting themselves and their health first to help others around them better!

Any big plans?
Whew! As the Mrs. United States 2021-2022 I’ve already accomplished my wildest dreams, I’ve relaunched my career going from owning a fitness studio during COVID to now running an Integrative Health Practice and business coaching others.

So right now, my main goal is to support others and pay it forward. However, I will say golf lessons and getting my private pilot’s license have piqued my interest recently.
