Conversations with Anna Catlett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Catlett.

Hi Anna, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am originally from Kingsport, TN. I was a competitive gymnast and cheerleader growing up until an injury ended my sports career. After high school, I obtained a bachelor’s degree in business from East Tennessee State University.

After that, I attended aesthetics school at the Aveda Institute in Knoxville, TN. Upon graduating, I moved to Nashville to pursue a career in aesthetics and cosmetic tattooing. I have now obtained my tattoo license and am a practicing cosmetic tattoo artist.

It took many hours of practicing and two years of working two jobs to get where I am, but I am absolutely living my dream and love every second of what I do.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I have been extremely fortunate to have a family who supports me and what I do. My parents and amazing boyfriend have helped me every step of the way to get where I am today.

The biggest struggle I have faced, like many others, has been Covid and how it impacted my career. I graduated from aesthetics school and moved to Nashville in the middle of the pandemic. It was definitely a poor time to start a career where you touch people’s faces for a living!

I faced many months of struggling to build a client base, find a job I liked, and make money. Working two, sometimes 3, jobs for the last two years has been hard; but luckily I had an amazing support system along the way.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a cosmetic tattoo artist. Right now, I specialize in microblading and lip blushing. I’m known for having a very natural-looking style of microblading. Within the next few months, I plan on also being certified in scar cover-up tattooing and 3D areola tattooing for those who have had breast augmentation surgeries.

I am most proud of how my work makes people feel. I have worked with many clients who struggle with brow loss due to alopecia or cancer, and being able to make someone feel beautiful and confident again is the best part of what I do. I think what sets me apart is that I value how people feel over how they look.

I want to help people see how beautiful they already are and give them confidence in themselves.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I think most people are surprised to know that I sing and play guitar. I’ve played guitar since I was about ten and always loved singing. I sang and played guitar in the church band growing up.

I don’t play in public anymore, but I have such a love and connection to music. Whenever I am going through a hard time, I am always able to find a song that comforts me through it.

I attach that memory to the song, and every time I hear it, I’ll think of that memory, which is why music is so emotional to me.
