Hi Jashay, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My key highlights: I’m under 35, wife, mother, black female, opened 2 businesses during the pandemic that are both thriving. My most recent being a brick & mortar event venue named, Our Legacy Event Space 1919 Gallatin Pike N Madison, TN 37115. I’m the Newest, youngest female venue owner in the area. (The new kid on the block) shortly before the pandemic officially hit, I started my journey to be a serial entrepreneur with my party rental company (Music City Party Rentals). We have been featured at over 200 events. With hard work, faith & a vision, I pivoted into my own venue within 2 years. My goals are to continue to bring diversity, exclusive items & top-tier experiences to the Nashville area. With such depressing times in the last two years, it warms my heart to see the smiles of guest after a successful safe event of fellowship with family & friends whom we missed so much during the pandemic.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road lol. My 1st full year in business was 2020. Of course, the entertainment business was completely shut down. After projecting to make a 2020 profit, we were in the red. I knew then that I had to really push once the city started to re-open. We gained momentum in 2021 but also endured & still are enduring the spike in cost of literally everything. It is so much pressure trying to stay affordable & survive rising inventory cost & actually run a business. I was steadfast in my ultimate goal at the time which was operating my own event venue. Finding a space that works with budget & needs was another Mt Everest to climb. Once you find the space, you have to climb through hoops to get in being that landlords are in a recovering stage themselves & are weary of tenant capabilities in these unstable times. It took some extra convincing & good faith measures but here we are. Blessed & pressing forward.
