Check Out Joseph P. Day’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph P. Day. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Joseph is a dedicated public servant and has a wide range of experience from working in various roles for the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office. Joseph is currently the Chief Deputy of Public Relations and Employee Development for the Circuit Court Clerk of Davidson County.

Starting as a summer intern in 1997, Joseph developed a passion for working in the public sector. He transitioned in the organization from deputy-clerk to training coordinator and helped establish procedures for each department. Joseph thrived in each role eventually becoming Business Manager of the Traffic Warrant Division.

Joseph spearheaded the consolidation of two separate departments, effectively reducing the office footprint and improving the efficiency of the business operations. In 2016, he was promoted to Chief Deputy and helped lead the development and implementation of the electronic filing system in the offices of the Circuit Court Clerk.

Joseph represents the offices of the Circuit Court Clerk within the community and maintains quality working relationships with governmental, legal, business, and professional organizations. He also fosters employee development programs for the organization and promotes its various public information activities.

Joseph was born and raised in Nashville, TN. He attended Metro Nashville Public Schools for his K-12 education and graduated from Whites Creek High School with honors in 1997. Joseph went on to attend Tennessee State University, graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree in 2001.

In 2011, Joseph obtained a Master’s degree in Public Service Management from Cumberland University. He continued his education by obtaining a Certified Public Administrator certification from the University of Tennessee – Institute of Public Service in 2012.

Joseph is a member of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. He loves volunteering, coaching, and helping others. Joseph is involved in various community activities and is a member of many organizations. Joseph is a longtime member of Richland Creek Church of Christ, where he regularly teaches and ministers.

He resides in Goodlettsville with his wife, Tomei, and their sons Jared and Jaden, who attend Metro Nashville Public Schools.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a long journey for me starting at the bottom of this organization and now in a position to run for office. My 5-year plan has turned into over 20 plus years of public service to Nashville Davidson County.

The office has changed over the years and I am grateful for the opportunity that was given to me in this organization by the current Circuit Court Clerk. I have been working hard to break barriers and I was the first person of color to become a training coordinator, Business Manager, and now Chief Deputy.

I have been carving a path for other minorities to advance. Since becoming Chief Deputy in 2016, I have been instrumental in 4 of the minority management role promotions.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory would be attending Tennessee State University’s homecoming parade and activities. I love to see the community come together and the whole city would come out to celebrate.

This guided my decision to attend Tennessee State University. To continue the motto of think, work, and serve.
