Community Highlights: Meet Darrie Sayles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darrie Sayles.

Hi Darrie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I had been a SAHM for about six years. My husband and I decided I needed to go back to work, so found a job where I could take my youngest daughter with me.

However, I quickly realized being gone 10 hours a day, was NOT for me! I missed being there for my girls. I wasn’t happy and knew that I was meant for more.

So started searching and found a VA program. I enrolled and loved learning about the online world that I never knew existed! There was a part of my VA program that did teach us about podcasts, which is where I first learned about it but wasn’t super detailed, and I didn’t know how needed podcast managers actually were.

While listening to a podcast, I heard about Lauren Wrighton’s podcast manager program and knew that was what I wanted to do. I loved everything about podcasts, and was ecstatic that I could listen to podcasts AND make money! For the first time, I found something that I really enjoyed doing on my computer. (During my VA course and work, it was a lot of emails, social media, and course creation – none of which lit me up).

I have been so fortunate to find amazing clients, who have been so kind to refer me to others which is what has ultimately grown my business!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, of course not!! There have been many ups and downs. In the beginning, I wasn’t sure if I would make it, however, I knew I didn’t want to go back to working a 9-5 so didn’t allow any plan B for myself.

I have learned the hard way on setting personal boundaries for myself – like not responding to emails in the evening or on weekends, allowing myself to actually HAVE a weekend, learning how to balance having kids at home, taking care of my family, cooking, cleaning, and running a business!

I have learned that I actually have to put time into my business just as I am putting time into my client’s business! And no matter how busy I get, that showing up online needs to be a priority!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am a podcast producer for female entrepreneurs.

I enjoy working with business coaches, health and fitness, and spirituality! I help launch and manage podcasts doing all the podcast post-production tasks. My clients can hit record, send me the audio, and be done! I also help with guest management, so going through podcast pitches that my clients receive as well as help my client get onto podcasts themselves.

What sets me apart is that I am extremely dependable, dedicated, and care for their podcast as if it were my own! I am optimistic and easy to get along with. I can be easy-going, yet also give recommendations when needed. I love to see my clients grow and succeed and will do everything I can to help them!

I am proud that I have grown my business through Covid, with all of my kids at home, through the back and forth of going to school and homeschooling, as well as having Covid myself. I am the proudest brand-wise of being authentically me with my clients, growing alongside them, and being dependable, loyal, and committed to producing high-quality results.

I am excited to see where my business grows and evolves, including adding team members and outsourcing more of my tasks, in order to manage the entirety of my business! I offer podcast launches, monthly management, guest management, podcast pitching as well as VIP days, where I help you get your podcast launched and teach you how to handle your podcast on your own!

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
If I can do it, so can you! I had zero experience in the corporate, or business world. I was committed, determined, and went after my dream. If you decide that this is something you want, it is possible, and there are endless opportunities out there for whatever you want to do, or who you want to work with!

I would say that no, it’s not easy. And you are going to hear stories of people starting out, retiring their husbands, and their business blowing up before they know it. YES, that does happen! No, it didn’t happen to me, but I never let that stop me. I am super proud of how my business grew, and it worked for me!

That is all that matters! Everyone grows and learns differently. You have to do what works for you and only you.
