Today we’d like to introduce you to Paisley Blu.
Hi Paisley, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I still don’t know what I’m going to be when I grow up! A California transplant, I came to Nashville, with big dreams, to pursue the music industry is becoming a validated songwriter. For me, this move was the beginning of a path to my personal freedom in so many ways.
My crazy life has been filled with extreme highs and lows. My writing is very personal and what you hear is me trying to sort through all of it emotionally and mentally. My songs are a mix of my fragile heart and my internal desire to be the strongest version of myself. In the times I find myself silent, is when a song idea, hook & or lyrics begin to flow.
My big sister’s back deck seems to be a favorite of mine, as the words bounce around my head and minutes later I scratch out the lyrics, to unknown melodies that I hear from within. She now knows the signs and provides the ink & a drink, laughing as she walks away… then I’m gone & lost in creating my next song.
Once I settled in, I began searching for someone that could help me hone my craft professionally & also help grow my vocal ability as well. I fell upon a Nashville-based musical institute, O-Kaye Productions. I began to work with the founder/owner Natalie Kaye Robertson. I can’t say enough great things about Natalie.
Before we even met there was something about her picture that I kept coming back to, as I scrolled through vocal coach options. At our first appointment, I knew she was the one. We connected instantly & make a great team. My brain operates in lyrics & storytelling while her gift is music and melodies.
Meeting this girl has changed my life personally and professionally.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My biggest obstacle as an artist is my stage presence.
I’ve had to find confidence within myself that doesn’t come naturally. Creating music is my passion. When it’s time for a photoshoot, making a music video, or performing live. I struggle to overcome my diffident personality.
Some days I wake up ready to conquer the world, on other days, I have imposter syndrome, still not believing that this is my life. I’m learning to celebrate my accomplishments instead of focusing on my weaknesses.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My work is also my love as a songstress. I love all genres of music, therefore, I write for all genres. Creating the song comes easy for me. I find myself humming a tune and then realize it’s not someone else’s music… it’s mine.
I stop whatever I’m doing and let the words flow. Sometimes I’ll later dream about a song I’m ready to record and add the finishing touches. Even, my current single out now, ‘3 Fingers Jack’, came to me while vacuuming. This just goes to show that a true songwriter can never, and I mean Never, stop writing, no matter what they are doing.
Natalie Kaye Robertson, the owner of O-Kaye Productions, has produced all of my songs currently and we record at Next Level Productions studio in Nashville, TN. I have 4 of my songs already released on all music platforms and several more in the can to be dropped on my first country album being released in the summer of 2022.
I have been honored to have A-List session players play on all of my songs such as Garth Justice, Gary Lunn, Jason Webb, Dave Cleveland & Jonathan Crone. Alson, Great background vocalists singing on them like Natalie Kaye Robertson, Jordan Guyton & Kyleigh Guyton.
These people are truly the magicians behind the curtain as they are making the music & vision of my songs come to life. So grateful for each one of their talents & time.
What’s next?
Planning is not my strong suit because I am a more “Fly by the seat of my pants” type of girl. I have a soft heart, sharp tongue, and a free spirit vibe emerging.
Taking baby steps… I started with writing, training, creating Andy then recording an E.P. to begin releasing my own music. Now… life is full of rehearsals at the studio and recording new music.
I have an upcoming show in Franklin, TN at The Franklin Theatre on May 9th. Who knows what’s coming next on this beautiful musical journey of mine so… Stay tuned!
