Check Out Mia Cervantes Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mia Cervantes.

Hi Mia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I grew up in a small town in Kentucky, so I was always looking for a new adventure!

When I was in middle school, I simply would walk around Wilmore and take photos of my friends. As I proceeded to take photos throughout middle school and high school, I began receiving inquiries to start shooting for seniors, weddings, and eventually artists, so I began to build my business.

As I’ve moved to Nashville, I have become even more passionate about fusing my love of music with photography and started photographing more concerts, festivals, and artists and hope to eventually shoot shows and weddings full-time.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The obstacle that I most consistently run into is imposter syndrome.

I cannot tell you the number of times I have been amongst my talented photographer friends and thought “I don’t belong here.” Living in a city full of creative people can be such a blessing, but if you lose sight of why you do what you do, it can lead to huge levels of comparison and competition.

I’m trying to learn that my art means something. If my work can inspire and serve one person, it is worth it. I can take up space here!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a photographer who specializes in portrait, wedding, and concert photography.

I find I am identified by my desire to turn my clients into friends! I know that getting in front of a camera can be scary and vulnerable for people, so I want them to feel safe. Know that I am on their team! I seek to capture photos to reflect the beauty that I see in others.

I am most proud of my annual natural beauty shoots. They are my favorite event of the year. I invite dozens of my friends to be involved in a photoshoot – with no makeup. Over the past four years, it has served to create a space that fosters community and celebrates innate beauty.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I love this question! People are really important to me.

I go to Portland Brew on 12 South about every day, and I have formed so many organic relationships within the past year by showing up to spaces consistently.

I love how I meet a new person every day in Nashville and have formed relationships with a variety of people who have each taught me something new.
