Today we’d like to introduce you to Teresa Guidry.
Hi Teresa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in Rock Hill, SC. After dreaming for most of my life about pursuing a music career, I made the big move to Nashville, TN in the summer of 2014.
It was clear to me that Nashville was where I was supposed to be right away. Since then, there have been opportunities in my music career that I’ve been fortunate enough to note.
Such as: writing with grammy-nominated songwriters, gaining national exposure on Team Blake as a contestant on NBC’s ‘The Voice’, singing the national anthem for the NFL’s Panthers, and as of late- having my new single and music video for ‘Paris’ being featured on CMT.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No way. It’s been one of the most difficult rides of my life… but those highs just make all of the lows worth it. Though, over the years, the lows have been really heavy at times. I’ve worked all types of jobs to keep myself afloat and keep reaching for this dream of mine.
Some of these jobs have included playing shows, of course, waitressing, bartending, delivering trucks all across the country, waking up at 4 am to teach kids in China English on a webcam, donating plasma and blacking out, and getting sick on myself in the donation chair… just to name a few. And all the while, struggling heavily with depression and anxiety.
There have many so many times where I’ve majorly doubted myself and this career path I’ve chosen, but then there are always these glimmering, hopeful, magical moments that pull me back.
Like being on a stage and having the crowd go crazy after playing a song, having women come up to me in tears after a show because one of my songs spoke to something they were going through so deeply, or when I’m writing a song and come up with a line from the heart that gives me chills.
It’s a soul-fulfilling type of feeling. Those are the moments that keep me going.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I would like to be known for showing my heart through my music. Making women, or just anyone feels like they have someone they can relate to.
Someone who’s not afraid to talk about the tough feelings that oftentimes we feel like we have to hide. I would like to be a source of humor, authenticity, and inspiration for people who follow my journey.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I have a lot of people who have helped me along the way.
My friends, my fiancé, co-writers, and mentors with serious experience in the music industry have encouraged me and opened my mind to new ideas and opportunities. A lot of people want to be around when you’re on TV, when you’re on top, or when it’s the “cool thing” to do to be on your team.
But I will NEVER forget the people who have stuck around and believed in me when no one else did, especially myself.
