Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucas Hagerty.
Hi Lucas, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I started collecting classic literature quotes because I love the power of words. I love how a single quote can move us. So, I started a collection of my favorite quotes and began sharing them on Instagram. It became a part of my daily morning routine: a quote and a coffee.
As the following has grown, I have leveraged my growing following of word-nerds for fundraisers and support of literacy nonprofits. We’ve also started a video anthology of other people’s favorite quotes and host a writing contest each month. We hope you will join our celebration @writtorg.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has been such a fun and rewarding project. From the beginning @writtorg has just been about learning, so the pressure has been low. While I worked in marketing for a living, I knew very little about the specifics and tactics of social media marketing. So that’s kind of why I started this project in the first place. To play with social media algorithms and learn more about that side of my industry. This account has provided an excellent, low-risk opportunity for me to learn. Yes, I’ve made plenty of mistakes in growing the account. But, that’s how you learn. So those obstacles, little as they were, helped me learn more about the platform.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us more about your work?
I have to humbly admit that very little of the magic of this account comes from me. I am simply sharing the brilliance of others. My level of curation is simply scanning an excel doc I made years ago and picking a quote that tickles my senses that morning.
So my work is that of a curator or editor, not artist. I leave the beautiful words to the professionals.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role you feel it’s played for you?
I believe in karma, not necessarily on a spiritual level, but in the momentum of good. Specific to the @writtorg account, I have found that the more I help and support others, the more my account grows in return. I have made incredible connections and friends through the account simply by being proactive in using the account as an instrument of good. So in that way, I think we make our luck by inviting good through doing good. Just get that momentum going, and it will sweep you to wonderful heights.
