Meet Megan Suttmiller of Native Massage Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Suttmiller.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Native Massage Company has been a dream of mine for a long time. Pop up events, bachelorette parties, girls’ night in, work events, and wedding parties…. We pride ourselves on being able to provide quality massage therapy with a professional attitude mixed with a fun-loving personality.

This is where we are now, but where did it all begin? I graduated from ITMM Massage Therapy School in 2003, so this year marks 19 years I have been working in the massage therapy field. It is crazy to think back from where it all started to where I am now. After graduation, I tried making it on my own renting space in a hair salon, and found out very quickly clients don’t just come running to you kicking down the door for a massage.

Shortly after, I took a job at a Nashville day spa and it was a game-changer. We had a local location but also contracted with the vast majority of the hotels downtown. Mind you that was old Nashville before downtown living was a huge thing and a hotel popped up on every corner. Regardless, taking that job was one of the best moves I ever made.

I learned so much about the spa industry, working with other therapists and so much about myself. After working my way up to lead therapist in a year and a half time, my heart was pulling me in another direction. I was drawn to a more clinical setting, a medical type massage. A few months later, I was asked to take over a fellow therapist’s clientele at a chiropractic office in Hendersonville, just North of Nashville.

I took over his clientele at the chiropractic office and was there for a year before moving to another clinic that would be my work home for the next 15 years. Working in so many different settings, treating a huge variety of clientele, and running my own business have taught me so much over the years.

And as much as I love working in the clinic setting, I would always find myself working on clients in-home and offered spa days on my off days to mix it up.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been easy, I think any small business owner can tell you that. But the trials and errors are what make you who you are. You learn and grow.

At the beginning of 2020, before the pandemic started, I had already been leaning toward expanding my business by adding bachelorette and birthday parties to my calendar. It is fun to mix it up, meet new people and try to share your knowledge of health and wellness in a fun way. And there is a need for it in Nashville with the booming tourist market now.

In March of 2020 we, like most of the work world, were rocked. Although we were clinically trained and worked on clients with injuries and chronic pain, we weren’t allowed to treat our clients. And then all of Nashville was shut down. No one was working. So that put a halt to expanding the business.

I am a firm believer that it is good in all circumstances, whether good or bad. The silver lining for me during all of that mess was learning two things: One: Nothing in life is more important than family. So not being able to work during that time allowed me to get to spend more quality time with my girls at home. And that is priceless.

Two: It just wasn’t time to go that route yet. I had just opened the door to a new idea and business and then the world shut down. God was telling me to wait. And wait I did. And boy am I glad I did!

Covid changed a lot of things for a lot of people. Things at my clinic changed, opening up another path for Native to be fully born. It also opened the door for mobile massage to be more welcomed and preferred.

We’ve been impressed with Native Massage Company, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Native Massage Co. is a mobile massage therapy business. We provide quality massage therapy treatments for you and your party in the convenience of your home, office, hotel, or Airbnb.

We feel what sets us apart from other massage companies is the mobile aspect. There are tons of places you can go to get a massage. But we bring our professional, fun-loving attitudes to you. At Native, our therapists don’t take ourselves too seriously, but when it comes to massage, we strive to provide you with the best massage you have ever had.

So whether you want a quiet relaxing treatment or to whoop it up with the girls, we customize your treatment time to your liking. Who says you can’t have fun and get a quality professional massage at the same time?

We also offer chair massage for corporate, work, and pop-up events. For companies, it boosts employee productivity and morale. For storefronts, it is a great incentive to offer for your customers while shopping or waiting for a friend to finish shopping.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
