Today we’d like to introduce you to Will Johns.
Hi Will, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born in 1973 in London England. My parents are actress/model Paula Boyd, sister of Pattie, and record producer Andy Johns, and my uncles include Eric Clapton, Mick Fleetwood, George Harrison, and Glyn Johns. You might say I was born into a Rock and Roll lifestyle!
I started playing the guitar as a teenager, with encouragement from my Uncle Eric. It wasn’t long before other forms of creativity kicked in and I studied performing Arts at Oxford. I soon developed my own unique sound that is both cutting-edge and steeped in blues history. Now, I am a singer, songwriter & performer,
I have released four solo albums and was nominated for ‘Best Original Blues Song’ by the British Blues Awards for three consecutive years.
I have appeared at such prestigious events as Blues On The Farm, Birmingham Jazz and Blues, Rainbow Festival, and Cambridge Rock Festival. I have toured the globe from Australia and New Zealand to the Czech Republic, Belgium to the USA, Guatemala, and all over Russia.
I have shared the stage with luminaries including Eric Clapton, Nile Rodgers, Ronnie Wood, Jack Bruce, and Robben Ford to name just a few.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been easy at all.
My mum struggled with alcohol and drug addiction and sadly she passed away in 2008. She divorced my Dad when I was just 2 or 3 and brought me to the UK where I went to school before moving again to Southern Ireland.
Believing in myself and working through self-doubt and the expectations of others, whether real or in my head, has been the hardest struggle in my personal creative process. During the pandemic, I contracted pneumonia and had to rehabilitate my lungs and relearn how to sing.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Singer/Songwriter and Guitarist.
I specialize in Blues, Blues Rock, and Psychedelic Rock. I am known for playing in the band ‘The Music Of Cream and The Will Johns Band.
I am probably most proud of my own albums “HOOKS & LINES”, ‘SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW’ and my recent release “BLUESDADDY”. Performing on stage with Eric Clapton was also a big deal for me.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is being able to enjoy yourself, your family, and your friends.
