Today we’d like to introduce you to Meranda Caswell.
Hi Meranda, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Hello, my name is Meranda Caswell. I am a multidiscipline, multimedia, treasure hunter, and soul searching preservation artist from Kentucky. I share my vision with the world in hope of inspiring one to live and love deeply.
To be fearless, adventurous, and spread one’s light on this earth. My love is preserving time, memories, and treasures. When I first moved to Kentucky, I couldn’t help but fall in love with the land and started forging flowers and other treasures.
Around the same time, I rescued a little orange tabby cat. His name is Thomas. We became inseparable. Each day, Thomas would bring me little gifts he caught such as; mice and moles. I couldn’t help but bring life to these gifts.
The next thing you know, I was learning to process their bones and preserving them in all kinds of necklaces, jewelry, and trinkets. These special gifts from my sweet kitty turned into the desire to bring love and special memories to other’s treasures such as; preserving breastmilk, ashes, memorial flowers, and other personal items.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So many of the special items I preserve are one-chance items.
For example; a mother’s breastmilk in many instances is very limited. Learning how to handle problems along the way, while processing such a limited supply of material has its challenges.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Being a preservation artist requires a lot of experimenting. I am known for and specialize in handling multiple types of materials. I never know how my resin will react to a surface.
Being able to work around any difficulties that may arise is a key part of my business. This allows me to work one on one with my clients. Every item they bring to me is very dear to their hearts.
I’m most proud of being able to work in collaboration with my clients over time, to make something truly special and memorable. My clients are not just my customers, they become a part of my family.
How do you define success?
To me, success is not measured by your achievements. Rather it is defined by your ability to persevere through your problems, failures, and the unknown.
