Today we’d like to introduce you to Kings.
Kings, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It all started in a tiny town in North Carolina. Music was always my first language & first love. I honestly don’t remember a time when I wasn’t singing or dancing with my 2 older sisters. I started performing when I was 3 & I knew I wanted to be a pop singer & songwriter ever since I started watching Hannah Montana.
I started writing songs at 9 years old & it really just snowballed from there. I traveled back & forth from North Carolina to Nashville as a teenager & officially moved there when I was a senior in High School. After many months of songwriting, I started pursuing social media. I posted my most viewed video in December of 2019 & that video now has over 75 million views.
I was in complete shock when this happened, but I was so incredibly grateful for the following I was able to grow through my music videos. From there, I started to release lots of music leading up to my first EP, which I dropped a couple of months ago, and now has over 3.8 million streams.
I am currently living in California & working in both Nashville & LA alongside some of my favorite writers & producers. I am still constantly & passionately trying to create art that’ll make people feel something, just like my little 9-year-old self would’ve wanted.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been an amazing & crazy one – to say the least. I’ll start off by saying, I have no regrets. Not to sound cheesy, but every single thing in life really does happen for a reason.
I have had a few falling outs with writers & producers I used to work with, all of which who were trying to change me in ways that weren’t authentic to me or my music. Although as a teenager this was very difficult, I pushed through every time. Everything happens in seasons & I learned a lot from those times in my life for sure.
On the social media site, I’ve also had some absolutely horrible managers. But through all of these situations, I’ve learned that at this point in my career, managing myself in music & social media is the best fit. It’s definitely a challenge, but I love what I do & am grateful for it every day.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an artist, songwriter, dancer, & influencer. I also play piano & produce music as well. I am known for my voice, songs, & bright yellow hair.
Although I would’ve never started social media if it wasn’t for music, it has been one of the greatest tools for my music & I’m so grateful I get to make videos for the people who want to follow my journey. I am actually most proud of the songs I’ve written that no one has heard yet – well besides my family, boyfriend, & closest friends.
Songwriting is a solid 50% of my career & I am most proud of the songs I have written at my piano at 12 am. I am also extremely thankful for the following I’ve built of over 5 million people. My younger self couldn’t be prouder.
What makes you happy?
I am happiest when I’m with my family.
I’m also my happiest self when I’m listening to music I’ve created with fresh ears. I have recently found a new love for working out, road trips, skincare, trader joe’s & doing escape rooms with my best friends.
Work is my everything, but I love stepping away to get some perspective. Self-love & self-care undeniably important & I think everyone on this planet needs to take time for it.
