Meet Frank Palangi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Frank Palangi.

Hi Frank, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hi there! Started out when I was 13 years old after watching the movie the Crow! I knew I wanted to be a rock artist from there. Been playing guitar for 20 years now and releasing music since 2010 with my first trip to Nashville, TN with the Grammy-nominated band Day Of Fire and their producer Rogers Masson. From there I started playing gigs and opening for national artists based in my home region.

I’ve worked with almost all TN-based professional musicians on my recordings from Lester Estelle (Pillar, Kelly Clarkson), Brian Craddock, Brandon Maclin (Daughtry), Brad Blackwood (Mastering Engineer), Michael Manus (Saving Abel, Scott Stapp) (along with others). Rock – Hard Rock – Acoustic Rock mostly is my genre and a little metal. Bands from Ozzy, Def Leppard, Metallica, Creed, Godsmack, 3 Doors Down, Drowning Pool to Daughtry, and Three Days Grace.

I’ve released 5 EPs and a few side cover songs. Nominated for an L.A. Music Award in 2012 for my single I Am Ready and was on the front cover of Music Now Magazine which had (unknown Demi Lovato) in there, along with other local titles and magazines/internet radio play. I grew up with the social media rise from the really early days of Youtube but knew it was going to be the next thing.

Internet radio is something you really push for airplay, it doesn’t pay as college or FM does, but that’s where your hardcore audience is.

Frank Palangi is an indie rock recording artist homegrown that reignites the fuel on the genre that refuses to die. His gravelly, deep n gritty, vibrato voice delivers across a room with his charismatic charm. Whether it’s a raw, unplugged acoustic set or the full driving sound of the electric guitar, the passion for rock is imprinted in his veins.

Frank is a millennial that wears many hats from recording, mixing, producing, teaching guitar lessons, and video work. His positive outlook on life is one of you don’t just give up & you stay on it however long it takes. His mission statement is “I have no plan b in backing down on my dreams.” His style tips the hat on the past 30-year evolution of the 80s & 90s rock & post-grunge genres mixed with a taste of heavy metal.

Since the COVID pandemic hit making things hard for musicians and Frank’s attitude and determination didn’t change the idea of his mission statement. “Growing up with the early Youtube days and the rise of social platforms, it changed the field of how to get music out there and I took the online approach harder and continue to do online shows.

I know things take longer than expected, it just means you have to believe & have faith more not to back down so quick.” The big choke in the music business is that you think you’ll become an overnight success fast, but that’s not the case.

Frank with having an admirable stubbornness and tenacity to keep progressing knows it’s relentless work and expecting rejection. “Palangi’s positivity extends beyond his music into the way he interacts with his fans. ” — Guitar World.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like my song “Driving These Lines” writes, there are ups and downs in the music biz or any biz, you have to keep positive, and as I say “NO PLAN B”.

You try to adapt in the best way possible with the live market changing, music sales, social media, and COVID. That killed most things except online music. It proved for me a very good thing during that time and still is with it going in and out. I had a lightning strike and my house caught on fire.

Losing memories and music gear but learning to adapt and start to really know who you are and what you want is key. It took a year to get back into the swing of things but now I have my home recording studio and time to put back in the groove.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Guitar – Vocals (I also record/play bass guitar, drums, percussion, and do voiceovers) I teach guitar lessons and help with songwriting. I also record myself and others in the studio along with mixing and some mastering.

I think you have to be a person who branches out nowadays. You can get different types of audiences besides just your music. Being live music wasn’t paying the bills alone, I had to do what I love in other ways.

My music style I believe I stick to the raw rock feeling and tone but don’t oversaturate with the same songwriting style or sound you hear from what you call ” most rock bands do ” as people may say – They are all different in their own ways but I choose to do my own path and not go so electronic and processed.

More real – more analog.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
All about choices and chances I believe. Luck I view as a bonus thing. If it happens great! I got a bonus haha.
