Meet Sammm

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sammm.

Hi Sammm, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Music was an important part of my life growing up. I grew up singing around the house, making up songs about the most random things, and making very bad music videos on my family’s videotape recorder.

I always wanted to be a singer but never thought I would be good enough or it would be something practical for me to do. My grandmother was a huge influence in my life musically. She taught me piano growing up and most things I know about music.

In 2020, I decided I wanted to share my music with the world. I started to pursue and take my music seriously with my first single release “Magic,” which I released on my grandmother’s birthday.

I have since released 2 more singles, “my heart’s losing its mind” and “mess that you made me.”

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?

i’ve learned that the only thing that can truly hold you back from your goals or dreams in this life is you. putting your heart out in the world in the form of art is truly scary. you just have to feel that fear and do it anyway.

looking back, i’d say it hasn’t been easy but it has definitely been worth it.

one of the biggest struggles for me as an independent artist, has been production costs, promotion, and being compensated very little from streaming services.

i don’t produce myself, i work with some really amazing producers that do amazing work. production work can be a struggle financially for independent artists and has definitely been a challenge for me

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m Sammm! I’m an indie-pop artist/ songwriter from Nashville and I’m most proud of my songs “Magic” and “mess that you made me.” I specialize in lyrics and melodies.

My voice is super unique and my style of music is different from others I’d say. I’ve been described as “hip-hop Taylor Swift” and sounding similar to Ellie Goulding & earlier Lights.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Pros: It’s a music city!

Cons: Too many people.
