Today we’d like to introduce you to Alisa Shamauree.
Hi Alisa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I’m originally from Chattanooga, TN! I moved to Washington, DC right out of high school and attended a Paul Mitchell school in Rockville, MD, where I received my Cosmetology license in 2010. After graduating, I began working for a blowout salon (the newest trend in the hair biz lol).
After working there for several years, I was able to build a decent size freelance clientele. A few clients would then ask me to come to their homes to style their hair for the week, special events, to assist their actual hairstylist (simply because I had perfected my ‘blowouts’), etc. Unfortunately, once that business grew, I craved to move to a different city/state to venture out a little more.
Fast forward… roughly 6 years, I moved to NASHVILLE, TN!!! With zero clientele, I thought it would be worth the shot to market myself by working for another local blowout company. Instead, I ended up working 3 jobs, while attending college; which was very short-lived lol.
I finally graduated with my Associates in Business Management, left 2 jobs, and became a full-time hairstylist, at SALON 1797, specializing in cut and color, especially blondes! Do I have a bit of a waitlist these days, kinda lol but this journey has definitely humbled me in more ways than one, and I have enjoyed every milestone.
So feel free to come to see me… I’m still there – at the salon that is lol.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wouldn’t necessarily say smooth! It’s been a little bumpy!
I would say once I left the DC area, I didn’t realize how much I had to gain the trust of others to actually build a business. I had to learn to trust myself all over again. I’ve never had an issue with meeting new people, networking, or even providing the service, I’ve always excelled there.
It was noticing for the first time that diversity wasn’t as diverse as DC, and it wasn’t about gaining just trust but proving myself to those around me!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a hairstylist in the Nashville/Brentwood/Nolensville, TN area. I specialize in Highlights & Special Occasion Hair; prom, weddings, etc.
I am most proud of gaining such a loving and loyal clientele, that continues to grow a great deal by consistent word of mouth.
I would say what sets me apart, is my personality, the ability to genuinely connect with each young lady/woman that sits in my chair, and to properly listen & execute their requested service.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
