Today we’d like to introduce you to Zoe Howard.
Hi Zoe, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always been interested in music, vocals, playing instruments, and writing, from an early age. The older I got, the more I wanted to be involved in the arts. I began singing at the age of 6 and then began to play guitar.
Then I furthered my interest in musical instruments and began branching out by playing drums, percussion instruments, and several string instruments. My vocals became stronger with age and practice. I now travel and am a young woman leading a great group of men in a band.
I have recorded an ep that is on all digital sources and get to do what I love!! I consider myself an Appalachian Rock/Folk artist. My band is known as Zoe Howard Music + Yellow Line.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Well, my band’s name is Yellow Line and we wanted to follow the “Yellow Line” to where it would lead us in music. It has been bumpy at times but it’s all in the ride!!
Being a young woman vocal lead in a band is an issue in itself. Music has been generally a world of men/boy lead bands and here I come a teen 16 (I’m now 18) leading a band of men, playing music, writing songs, and doing what we love!!
I’ve noticed that there are fewer female roles in music, at least where I’m from than men. I am proud of the road I’m taking and expect it to be rough at times, but I’m doing what I love to do!! I’m Appalachian proud!!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have been in music for most of my 18 years of life. I started singing with a coach at the age of 6, Clyde Porter. I then moved on to playing a variety of instruments.
I have grown a great interest in writing songs and have created and recorded an EP called “Yellow Line”, the name of my band. I worked hard on the music and writing. I got some advice from my coach and band member Clyde and also Robert Daniels, who is a band member and friend musician.
Robert told me to listen to everything and songs would come, and they did. I love writing songs about the people and things around me. I live in Eastern Kentucky and am very proud of my beautiful state and my roots.
Clyde Porter acoustic guitar, Steve Porter Keys, Jason Justice Bass Guitar, Connor McGlone Drums, Robert Daniels electric guitar, fiddle
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
My favorite verse from the Bible is, “We can do all things through Christ that gives us strength“ Phill. 4:13 and I believe this and recite this all the time. This keeps me strong!
