Check Out Trent Grayson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trent Grayson.

Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us how you got started?
Me, I am very meticulous about my personal clothing choices. The smallest detail, such as the stitching, is a big deal for me. I like clothing styles that fit and represent my personality (who and how I am). I am a cool guy with a positive and confident vibe. So, my clothing and fashion choices reflect me.

In high school, a few close friends and I became serious about the idea of a clothing brand. We began to come to the table with our ideas, and soon we were able to launch Bad Idea Clothing. A couple of years later, the group split. We used social media for most of our marketing strategies which were surprisingly and overwhelmingly remarkable in terms of sales and support.

After the group split, I took time off from the clothing brand to figure out what I wanted to do. With the help of my older brother Stan, I relaunched Bad Idea Clothing. My brother added a more personal side to marketing by creating a functioning website that featured a variety of my merchandise. Today, I control the brand, creating, planning and sales. I continue expanding and introducing new merch, and I have participated in several showcases this year. Things are going great!

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Just in life, you have obstacles, so no doubt with a business, you will have your fair share of obstacles, problems, struggles, whatever you want to call them. For me, the first obstacle was the group breaking up at what I thought was a pivotal time. I didn’t envision us breaking up. We were at the peak of the brand. So, I am now like, what am I going to do? I lost money, and we lost money. Secondly, it’s a struggle to finance a business from the ground up. I have funded my business from my earnings and worked two jobs while being a full-time college student. So, I have made huge sacrifices to keep Bad Idea Clothing operable. Budgeting and financing must be the utmost important part of keeping the business moving forward. Last, I would say competition is a struggle sometimes, so you must find strategies that make you stand out or keep your merch on top! Realizing that obstacles and struggles will come, I am in a place where I will not let them break me, and that is a testament to my faith.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I own Bad Idea Clothing, where I design hoodies, jackets, pants, t-shirts, vests, bucket hats, caps, socks, and masks. My brand is a light bulb logo which symbolizes how each person’s light in life shines differently from one another. We all have ideas, some of which may start as bad ideas but grow to be the greatest life achievement or accomplishment. Simply believing in yourself and allowing your light to shine in all circumstances is what Bad Idea Clothing represents—creator, stylist, and entrepreneur. I am most proud of the leap of faith to keep grinding despite my obstacles. I could have easily given up on my passion, but that flame within continues to flicker. Even though it’s hard work, I am driven by the message. I want to continue to shine brighter and hope to encourage others to shine. And I am super proud to be the creator of Bad Idea Clothing! I don’t know that anything sets me apart from others. There are platforms out here for everyone. In anything you do, you have to work, hustle and stay creative. I believe in myself. I support the efforts of others trying to do the same.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I am working on a business plan for my next project; stay tuned. Also, I am a senior at Troy University Montgomery; if all goes well, I will graduate at the end of this year, 2022. If I am not fortunate to get all my classes, I will be done in 2023. Either way, I am at the end. It’s been a long time coming, and I am super proud! My major is Sociology with a minor in Food and Nutrition.
