Meet Courtney Wite of North

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Wite.

Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us how you got started?
Being from the small town just outside Nashville, musicians were and still are everywhere—but I didn’t consider myself one until I was about 18 years old when I started songwriting. And even then, I didn’t understand where I stood with my peers until I won a songwriting competition (Camp House Chattanooga, 2016)–before then, I was just itching a scratch. After living with a musician, playing around town, and co-writing I found something I loved. Quickly realized music was different things to different people. For some, it was a business. For others, it was an identity. Artists commonly go into a room and say, “Let’s write a hit,” specifically about something trending. But the best writers I know write about their lives. And that’s what I try to do. I may not have the largest following or play the largest shows, but I write music I’m proud of. And I am extremely pleased to work/co-write and learn from other great artists in the industry that do the same.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I struggled and still do with anxiety and stage fright.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am more of a songwriter than anything. I’ve been told my music is lyric-based—one of my latest singles, Legend of the Fall, is a good example. It’s a song about the first young love story I witnessed, between my older sister and her beautiful crush of a boy. He left one day, and years later she found out he was sent to rehab. I couldn’t help but think the story might have been different had it not been for the addiction.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
A little plug, I just released an acoustic version of Legend of the Fall and a new single, “Still Do”. More music to come soon.
