Rising Stars: Meet Tiara Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiara Johnson.

Hi Tiara, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
In 2014, my oldest sister came to me and asked if I wanted to take up cosmetology.

At first, I thought to myself, “how would I get the techniques of learning?” Taking a leap of faith, I filled out an application at Paul Mitchell. At that time the school was located in Antioch, in the middle of being in core class we found out the location was closing down and every student had to transfer, no exceptions!

I didn’t have a car and didn’t know how I was going to commute back and forth. From car pulling with classmates to riding the van that was provided to us, I did everything in my power to stay focused and get a car. With Everything going well at this point, I was a happy camper and was ready to complete my cosmetology course.

Just about 3 months before my last clock out (1500 hours) my car broke down and I decided to take a MENTAL break. I was out of school and work for two months, whew it was tough! I went back and finished the hours that I had left to receive my license in 2015. I took my test and passed and I then realized that Hair was actually a passion of mine and I wanted to proceed in a career. I started to accept clients in a salon setting, and I loved it!!!

I took on the responsibility and opened my own salon suite for my business, and signed a contract for a one-year’s lease. After my lease was up, I began to travel and work, doing two things that I love. Working and meeting with new individuals people was amazing and that’s how I came up with the brand “Queenz Only Collection” giving women the ultimate Queen experience that they deserve.

Since I have the word (Collection) in my brand I figured that I needed to offer more than just performing services, and needed to provide more products. I am now getting ready to launch my extension & clothing collection in September and I’m nervous and excited at the same time.

It’s been a rollercoaster but I’ve enjoyed every bit of the ride!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing in life will be smooth, but one thing that I’ve learned is that you have to turn into positive in some sort. As long as you put negative energy into the universe 9/10 that’s the energy that will be returned.

Keeping my business running has been tough, from moving out of state and losing a majority of my clients, I came back to Tennessee and honestly didn’t know which way to turn but to my journal and manifest everything that I want in my life. You have to stay focused, regardless of the distractions!

Keep in mind there will be tests to test how strong your faith is and will be.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a hairstylist. I specialize in color, cuts, & extensions. I’m looking to provide more services for my Queenz and I’m proud of the confidence that I’ve built along the way.

Being transparent on and off social media is different in a way, as well as my brand. I put the focus on my clients & off myself.

Customer service is key, and I’m proud of how much I’ve grown through the obstacles and understanding that running a business isn’t easy, but by continuing to stay focused and pushing through, all hard work is destined to pay off.

We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking?
My personal thoughts on risk-taking are honestly what it’s all about. You have to be willing to go all in, dedicating and sacrificing whatever to get and appreciate what’s destined for you whether good or bad.
