Life & Work with John Boyens

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Boyens.

Hi John, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I played professional golf after graduating from college.

In 1978, I was giving a golf lesson to what turned out to be a corporate recruiter and he placed me in my first sales job late that year. I spent the next 40+ years learning all I could about selling, sales, the sales process, buying behaviors, and sales management.

After two decades in corporate America, my late wife and I co-founded the Boyens Group®, a sales training and consulting firm, in 1998. Since our beginning, we’ve been honored to work with over 2,500 clients and 30,000+ people worldwide.

I was named as a Top Sales Enablement Consultant for 2020 by Selling Power magazine as well as a Top 100 Productivity Experts to follow on Twitter. In addition, I am the Executive-in-Residence at the Jones College of Business at MTSU, a Vistage Speaker, a contributor to Forbes.com, and the author of Creating a Productive Selling Zone®.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
While I’ve been very blessed, I’ve also lived through significant challenges such as 9/11, the burst of the housing bubble in 2008, and for the past 2.5 years the effects of a global pandemic.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a sales productivity expert, business strategist, and entrepreneur with four decades of executive coaching, speaking and most importantly in-the-trenches sales experience. My passion is working with B2B SMB Owners and sellers.

What makes me unique is that I custom-design all engagements (speaking, training, consulting, and coaching) based on the unique needs of my clients, the markets that they serve, and their budgets.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’m not a big believer in luck. If you work hard, focus on helping others, and are honest you will be successful!
