Conversations with Michael Alan Scott

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Alan Scott.

Hi Michael, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, music was always in my household. My parents and siblings are talented musicians and inspired me to pursue music. At the age of 7, I got a guitar for my birthday and since then I have played guitar almost every day.

While the guitar was my main thing for most of my childhood, towards the end of high school I started writing, producing, and expanding my musical capabilities. This led to the formation of my band “99′ Corolla.” As I started to refine my writing and producing skills with this band, I also discovered my love for live music.

As we started to play out more I discovered that’s what I wanted to do with my life. I decided to move to Nashville to pursue my solo career as well as play and tour with other bands.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Pursuing music is a risky career choice but not impossible. It can be really hard to make music when you don’t feel inspired. Writer’s block is a real thing and I have experienced it many times it can really discourage you.

I have learned to just keep working hard and eventually the ideas will start flowing again. I have been in a creative rut recently but have more recently gotten out of it and have been working on an EP set to come out this fall.

A career in music is all about patience and is always rewarding even if there are bumps in the road.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My solo project, “Michael Alan Scott”, is what I work the hardest on, am most known for, and what I am most proud of. My writing and production are influenced by many artists in Nashville but I still remain unique and different.

I try my best to always think ahead and do something I haven’t heard another artist do. I think my latest EP, “The Dark Can Be a Beautiful Place”, executes this well.

Blending folk, rock, and electronic elements while carrying a deep message across simultaneously is something I haven’t heard many artists do well but I believe this is what I am best at. I hope to always remain unique and stand out amongst the crowd.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I see myself eventually making a good living off of my solo career, as well as playing guitar on artists’ tours here and there. Landing a deal with a label is the dream and I believe in 5-10 years I’d be able to attain that.

Getting to a level where I can support my future family is the goal and I am working hard to make sure I am able to do that.

As far as the music itself goes, I see myself venturing into more genres, continuing to grow in my musical abilities, and putting out a full-length album in the near future.
