Hi Chip, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started Ecoscapes Inc in Feb. 2015. My inspiration to start this company was based on owning a landscape maintenance company before starting up this one. With that one, I had done the work for a long time and didn’t have good processes set up, so I got burnt out. Part of what I figured out gave me energy was creativity, something that you don’t get much on the maintenance side of things. I started Ecoscapes with a vision to supply services to new home builders in the Nashville area to start growing and cultivating the design-build side of our business with homeowners. It’s been a long road with ups and downs and some hard lessons, but we have been able to weather through and build ourselves up to being a premier landscape design/build firm in the Nashville area. In just 7 short years, we have grown from me and 3 laborers working in the field to 4 Office personnel, 2 project managers, and roughly 35 members of our workforce, from crew leaders to laborers. We have had great success and are blessed to have the opportunity to work with our clients.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. With any growth, there are growing pains. Some of which I wish I had a business mentor/coach to have helped me make different decisions, not knowing what I didn’t know. He helped me build processes (financial, managerial, etc.) to help organize but also make any decisions easier to make. In 2017 I hit the end of the road and decided to hire one.

Our organization name is Ecoscapes Inc. We are a full-service design, build, and maintenance landscape company located in the Nashville metro area and service the Nashville metro area. We service commercial, new, custom home builders, and residential clients. With our residential clients, we work specifically with homeowners wanting to transform their surrounding outdoor environments into one that can be lived in and enjoyed for years down the road. This includes pools, fire features, hardscape patios, outdoor kitchens/structures, and full landscape design and installation. What sets us apart from others is our ability to communicate clearly with the client and hyperfocus on details from start to finish. From a brand position, I am proud that we can bring the outdoor living factor to our clients no matter the style (contemporary, modern, rustic, etc.) that matches their desired product. I want those reading this to know that we can help them achieve their outdoor living area dreams.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I have had many who have helped along the way. First and foremost, Jesus Christ, my Savior. The ability and talents I have been given to help provide these services to people wouldn’t be without how I’m wired with creativity. Secondly, my wife, Lindsay, has been a rock for me when things have been tough and a constant cheerleader. I mentioned the business coach (Scott Beebe) earlier, but he helped me transform how we build our processes and business futuristically. Additionally, I have a great group of men in my mastermind group that also, week in and week out, encourages and provides sound advice on anything I need help with.
