Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Rummel.

Hi Sarah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always loved vintage fashions, and as a kid, I spent a lot of time at yard sales, garage sales, flea markets, and auctions with my extended family. Secondhand shopping was as much a cost-saving measure for my family as it was an effort to support sustainability. I still appreciate those benefits and the self-expression of vintage fashion. 1940’s-1960’s fashions are my favorite and while I love the full pin up look I usually add more of a modern twist to my vintage style. I love helping people find that perfect item for a special occasion, a photo shoot, or that new favorite everyday item. A few years ago, I became involved with the local burlesque community. When my friend, Becky McKee, decided to open a rehearsal and performance space, it was the perfect opportunity for me to pursue my vintage dreams. Becky needed a tenant in the space, and the two businesses work well.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been the smoothest road. I was prepared to open my boutique in March 2020 when the Covid-19 lockdown started. The opening was delayed, and the demand for fancy clothing, jewelry, and handbags for special events was not high. It’s certainly been a slower start than I had hoped for. Still, we just celebrated the 2nd anniversary of opening the boutique, and I am having the best time building my business and meeting fellow vintage enthusiasts.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Providing vintage fashions in various sizes and styles at affordable prices while supporting sustainability and keeping these beautiful items out of landfills is important to me. I operate an independent vintage boutique specializing in the 1940s-1960s women’s vintage fashions, including dresses, lingerie, swimwear, purses, hats, and other specialty items. Every item in the boutique has been curated to create a collection that anyone can dress up, dress down and modernize to meet your style.

How do you define success?
Success is finding happiness and contentment in life and in what you do. I genuinely and truly enjoy helping people find a vintage piece that brings them joy, makes them feel like the goddess they are, or provides them with an avenue for self-expression through fashion.
