Hidden Gems: Meet Richard and Tammy Redmond of Haven Painting Co

Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard and Tammy Redmond.

Hi Richard and Tammy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Haven Painting Co began from a true felt need. But things began when Rich Redmond, our lead painter, and owner of the company, started painting with his father as a child. He immediately fell in love with its tedious and rewarding nature.

As we all know, sometimes life takes us in a different direction than the things we love. So as an adult entering the workforce, Rich went the route of working for US Air. But the truth is, he always wanted to be painting. He would paint his own home and always be the first pick for friends and family. So after a few twists and turns in his career in 2017, while living in Pittsburgh, PA, he finally began his first painting company. In early 2022, Rich and his wife Tammy, co-owner and runner of the backend of the business, moved to the beautiful state of TN, just south of Nashville.

During this time, Rich and Tammy’s daughter was also battling some health issues due to mold toxicity. She would have bad reactions around any strong chemicals or even chemical-like smells. This drove our family to begin rethinking the chemicals found in the paint we used. After countless hours of research and testing, we discovered how toxic traditional paint could be, even to the average person. Rich’s painting company was relaunched as Haven Painting Co., a luxury painting company with a non-toxic promise.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting or re-launching a business is never smooth. It’s not supposed to be. But the biggest challenge is educating homeowners on the importance of using non-toxic paints and the following processes. Many of us are changing how we eat and trying to lower the toxic products we use in our homes and beauty products, but most people have not given much thought to the toxic fumes from the paint on the walls of their homes. VOCs from the paint can continue to produce toxic fumes for many months, even after the painting is complete. Non-toxic paint does cost a little bit more, but it’s like buying organic foods at the grocery store. You get what you pay for. With non-toxic paint, you’re getting safety and peace of mind for you and your family.
