Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Alfredo.
Hi Anthony, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I grew up in a family of race fans. We all love anything with an engine, and as an adrenaline junkie, pushing it to its mechanical limits was always my personal favorite part. I raced for fun at the local rental kart facility but never thought my dream of becoming a NASCAR driver was possible.
I was pretty good at the rental kart racing and decided to get my feet wet in legend cars in 2015 after playing stick and ball sports along with participating in other extreme sports hobbies of mine for a few years.
I was immediately hooked and found my passion, which led to an opportunity to race late model stock cars (the entry-level to stock car racing at the regional level) after just a few starts and eventually climb the ranks of asphalt oval racing to the very top.
I even drove for my childhood hero Dale Earnhardt Jr. at just 17 years old, along with signing with the legendary Richard Childress to racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2020. Fun fact, my parents actually toured Richard Childress Racing (RCR) as fans 25 years earlier, long before I was born, when they traveled from New York to see the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte.
Flash forward to 2021, just 6 years after beginning my stock car racing journey, I secured a full-time ride in the NASCAR Cup Series and my first start was the Daytona 500! When I began racing, I also spent a lot of time sim racing on iRacing.com. It’s a motorsports simulator that has actual 3D scans of race tracks around the world and a multitude of race cars with real driving physics.
This helped propel my career since it was a training tool, even though it is just an online racing game to some. Not many people can say they went from driving virtual race cars as a novice sim racer to competing in the real-life Daytona 500 and other crown jewel events as a full-time driver in the Cup Series.
That is like playing Madden and becoming the quarterback of a Superbowl team. Needless to say, my racing career and story are unique as I’ve gone from race fan to actual driver. I feel very humbled and blessed.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
As simple as it sounds, my career journey in motorsports has not been smooth. My family and I didn’t know any of the ins and outs of the industry when I first started, like how important sponsorship is for a talented driver to secure a competitive ride.
I have been very fortunate to meet so many great people and build relationships with industry members just from networking. This helped propel me through the ranks and eventually land a full-time ride after many part-time racing schedules as I gained experience, learned on and off the track, as well as developed partnerships with companies that were interested in sponsoring my racing program.
Still to this day, there is a lot of uncertainty as a driver in the sport and I am working hard to sign a multi-year deal with a race team I can grow with. Racing is definitely physically and mentally challenging on the track, but also off the track.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a NASCAR driver competing full-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for Our Motorsports driving the No. 23 Chevrolet Camaro. I also have a large role in Esports, specifically sim racing.
I manage an eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series charter for XSET Gaming, who I am also a content creator for. I also co-own an iRacing team that fields 6 drivers in the Coke Series.
I love to get outside on my paddle board, train in the gym, go fishing, and have recently gotten into cycling. In my spare time, I love streaming on my partnered Twitch channel too where I mainly sim race.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I am a sneakerhead and love to collect special edition shoes.
