Today we’d like to introduce you to Emmy Singer.

Hi Emmy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
With everything I owned in my ’98 Toyota Camry and a room to rent with the only two people I knew in the city, I moved to Nashville in 2011, about a week after graduating college. I had big dreams of making a life in Music City, and coming to the South was a real love affair for this New York girl. I couldn’t wait to start my new life chapter.

Over 6 years, I made dreams a reality and built a beautiful life that included success, failure, loss, redirection, uncovering, and all the things that make you grow. A digital marketing job in the music industry working for big-name country artists turned into trying to find my way after losing my dad. Grief led me back to a yoga class, which turned into a new career path. Through all of that, I met an incredible man, and we vowed to create a life together that was exciting, challenging, fun, and filled with love.

In 2017 we opened a yoga studio, a place where music, movement, breath, and community all came together. We built Inner Light Yoga – ILY (ill-y) as we called it – from the ground up. It was a husband-and-wife operation alongside a dedicated team and students who were there for fun, energetic classes but also the connections that allowed us to learn, unlearn, and make small changes to our corner of the world. I used my creative skills to tell the story of our community and invited folks to come along with us through authentic and intentional online marketing efforts.

At the end of 2019, as our studio baby was nourished and thriving, we welcomed a human baby into our lives. It has undoubtedly been the greatest gift and honor of my life to become a mother. Our new little person changed our entire world, and just 4 months after we became a family of 4 (our little-footed dog is technically our firstborn), the rest of the world changed forever too.

I don’t even have the words. Navigating the COVID-19 pandemic with a small business and a newborn baby was truly indescribable. Ultimately, it became insurmountable, and we had to let our one-of-a-kind ILY go. The studio doors closed in August of 2020. but not without a forever-lasting impact on all the people who were a part of that community.

Then came another season of life that again included success, failure, loss, redirection, and uncovering. These have led me to this next chapter of work and life. This one now includes my intentional branding company, where I work with folks who are building something meaningful through creative brand strategy, consulting, and content marketing. I collaborate with people and businesses to support them in telling their stories and growing their communities. I strive toward collaboration with curiosity, courage, and compassion through values-focused work that supports a more equitable and inclusive world.

And most importantly, I’m raising my tiny kid alongside my partner with our special little rescue pup. In our family, we value truth, kindness, and unconditional love. That carries over into everything I do, and I recognize the privileged identities that have given me the space to live this life.
