Today we’d like to introduce you to Reanna Williams.
Hi Reanna, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always loved Photography and creating stories with images. I have always found it warming to know any moment can be captured in time. It is a joy of mine to go back and look at old photos and relive those moments. Like everyone else, I have loved and I have also lost.
To be able to go back and see someone who I loved and no longer physically present on this earth with us; to be able to feel that moment with them again just through a photo is an amazing experience. Once it was time for me to go to college I always knew I wanted to study photography.
I decided to get my minor in it and I never looked back. I have enjoyed getting to learn about it from the technical end of it and how everything works. I think that helped me grow a bigger appreciation for it as well. I know photography is a part-time gig and getting to create and not be overworked is a blessing.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road to get to where I am today. I have always had doubts as an artist and about what I create. I had professors in college who didn’t like what I would create. They didn’t think I could be a photographer and do this professionally.
That made me want to work harder and prove them all wrong. I decided that I would create what I wanted and that whatever work I was putting out in the world would be something memorable. I told myself if I had that type of mindset that a-like people could eventually come my way and appreciate what I was creating.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Portrait and Editorial Photographer. I am known for capturing emotions and telling a story in the photograph. I want to capture someone’s light and soul in the picture and have you feel their energy while looking at it.
I want you to look at my work and not only see “a sunny warm day” I want you to be able to feel it as well. I think what sets me apart from others is that I look at little details in the photos and make sure that every object in the frame is there for a reason and plays into the storyline with it.
We all have different ways of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as a personal aspect of one’s life. I think for some people success may look like becoming the next Photographer on the cover of Vogue. I also think for some others success looks like just having the energy just to get up and brush their teeth.
Those both look like successes to me depending on the day. I don’t think you can define someone else’s success. I think if you have a personal goal and you’ve worked hards towards it and succeeded you win.
