cathy Cardenas of Franklin on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to cathy Cardenas. Check out our conversation below.

Hi cathy, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
In my business my day to day can vary but I do have a few routines that keep me balanced. The first thing I do is start my day with is 20 to 30 minutes of prayer and meditation and I won’t even look at my phone until I’ve done this. Next I follow with listening to a daily devotional while getting ready. I’m so much more energetic in the morning so I like to immediately get into work mode and emails and then tackle the day. I don’t drink coffee but occasionally I might have an energy drink if I’m needing a little caffeine boost.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’ve been in the media industry in some capacity for nearly 30 years. For the last 14 years I’ve run my PR firm, Cathy Cardenas PR and that keeps me extremely busy with all types of clients including athletes, actors, brands, event planning and consulting.
A few years ago I took my love of fashion and turned it into a second business by launching a clothing line called, HOPE WEAR CLOTHING. It’s an inspirational clothing line that gives back to 3 different charities with causes we are passionate about.
I recently started a faith-based podcast called “Grace Begins” where I share spiritual comeback stories with people that found God and His Grace on their journey.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I was raised in Idaho and was the youngest of 7 children. My mother was a single mom that would sometimes have to work 3 jobs to support us. Her example taught me about hard work and unconditional love. She dedicated her life to raising children and serving others .
As for who saw me clearly? Thats easy, my mom. She was always my biggest cheerleader and support system. She always knew I had the potential to do great things in life. She believed in me when others didn’t and lifted me when I needed it the most.. I wouldn’t be where I am today without her. I sadly lost her last year, but I make it my goal to continue making her proud and never forget her beautiful words of wisdom.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I think the times of suffering showed me just how strong I am. The hard times and suffering helped me to truly see my strength and resilience when I was in those really low and dark places. I found that success is so much sweeter when you’ve had to earn it with pain, blood, sweat and tears. When you know the sacrifice it took to get you where you are it just means that much more especially when it’s not been handed to you.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I think they would all agree that’s my Faith! I owe everything to God.
Last year was one of the hardest years I’ve ever had to endure but my faith in God and His miracles brought me through the hard times.
If anyone is going through tough times personally or in business, please lean into your faith.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
Recently so much of my legacy has been building successful businesses.
I am truly blessed to get to do a job that I love but the most important legacy I want to be remembered for is being a mother. I’m not sure mama’s get enough credit these days. As thankful as I am for the experiences in my life, none compare to raising my kids and raising them to be good humans that make a better world.
These are truly the “legacies” that matter the most.
