Check Out Colette Shumate’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Colette Shumate.

Hi Colette, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started mixing body butter with fragrance oils when I was 15 years old. As years passed by I learned more about different organic kinds of butter and oils to make the butter smoother and more beneficial for the skin.

It has since been 37 years with trial, error, and success I have created a product that speaks for itself. The body butter is so silky and moisturizing for the skin and smells amazingly good.

Around 2018, I was asked by family members to make body butter and sugar scrubs to sell. I did and 5 years later it has been successful with organic skin, body, face, and hair products for men, women, and children.

I have a true passion to provide a service that gives true quality products. I want my customers to see the benefits of using organic products and love them. From the yummy scents in body butter and scrubs to the softness and fullness in the men’s beard products.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I believe my hardest struggle was learning an organizational pattern that would make it easier for production. (i.e. labeling, organization of growth to offer many different products and scents).

With advice from other vendors and my husband. I have found a system that works for me now. As Pink Suga grows I will always have to adjust to fit the demand for products. It will always be a learning process as you grow.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Pink Suga Creations is my work, my dream, my baby. I put hard work and time into researching organic ingredients to use in my products. The amount of love that goes into each product speaks for itself.

I love the way the body butters smell and stays on the body all day. I love the way the sugar scrubs exfoliate the body leaving a layer of moisture after rinsing them off of your body. I love the way the face moisture and turmeric sugar bring life back into your face.

I am proud of all my products and wish I could have the whole world experience them. I am happy to have been able to start this journey with my loving Nashville family and the surrounding US States. The support has been overwhelming and AWESOME!!!

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
As a small business owner, most of your sales may come from pop-up events.

It is very important to build your client base and to do that you should be steady & present at one or two markets until you are able to hit the more expensive events and festivals. Your customers will follow you, but you have to build that relationship with the public to see that you are consistent.

Don’t be afraid to talk to other vendors, you will see that a bond will form with those you see on a regular bases.
Also, remember your business is your baby it may get rough sometimes, but just keep pushing, it will become a GREAT SUCCESS.

Never give up on what you love to do.
