Today we’d like to introduce you to Jameka Dowell.
Hi Jameka, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I was 18, I graduated high school and signed a basketball scholarship to play at a school in Kansas.
After I graduated from there, I transferred to a division 1 school in Texas also for basketball. In 2019, I graduated and moved back to Tennessee. In 2020, I had a picture of myself go viral on Twitter and that’s kinda what got the ball rolling on my modeling career.
I started having photographers ask me to do photoshoots and eventually I signed with a modeling agency!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I definitely feel like I was fortunate in how I got into the modeling industry but it hasn’t always been smooth.
I have been an athlete my whole life and I didn’t really even like taking pictures. At first, I felt really awkward and out of place. I also had to really work on my confidence!
The more confident you are in the way you look, the easier it is to kill whatever look you’re going for because you just KNOW you look good. I didn’t have that mindset about myself.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Outside of modeling, I am a behavioral therapist for autistic kids. I absolutely love what I do so to me it doesn’t really feel like a job.
As far as modeling, I specialize in fitness and fashion. I think the main thing that sets me apart is my big natural hair and the fact that I am a very versatile, androgynous model. I have started photography and working on the other side of the camera!
I am probably most known for my hair, abs, and tattoos!
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
