Today we’d like to introduce you to Kat King.
Hi Kat, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My husband and I moved to Nashville in 2022. We have always loved the city and decided to relocate from Georgia in order to pursue his career in the music industry.
Hosting is near and dear to our hearts! We love to entertain and have friends over. As parting gifts, I began cutting propagations from the plants around my home. That way, not only would our friends remember our time together, but the propagations would serve as a gift that kept on giving! Rooting ourselves in love and sharing that love with others in such a tangible way became a passion.
That’s when the idea for Honey Bud Blooms was born.
The business’s name was inspired by my hound dog, Waylon. Coining the nicknames, “Sweet Honey Hound” or our “Honey Boy”, his sweet personality heavily influenced the name of the business.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Something I am incredibly proud to hear from clients is that they have never heard of another propagation bouquet company – which is a HUGE compliment in my opinion. We are an incredibly unique business. This gives us the privilege of being able to set industry standards, while simultaneously experiencing the do’s and don’t’s of the industry first hand.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Honey Bud Blooms is a luxury propagation bouquet company that customizes designs using a wide variety of houseplants in unique vessels. Picture a floral arrangement, but instead of the flowers dying in a week, my arrangements are comprised of living plants that can thrive for years to come!
I handcraft each and every bouquet from propagation cuttings off of my healthy, parent plants, I then find unique vessels to place them in. Some are super modern looking pieces, while others are antiques. I try to find vessels that will fit a range of personal styles!
I am incredibly proud of the fact that, to my knowledge, this is the first company. Florists make stunning bouquets, and nurseries sell beautiful plants, but my work combines both into a unique experience.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My grandparents lived in this tiny townhouse where we would visit them as kids. Their backyard, much like the townhouse itself, was very small. Consisting of a small patio area surrounding by some bits of grass.
A fond memory I have of going there was sitting on their back patio and admiring the beautiful garden growing and climbing up their fence. No matter how small their space was, they always felt like it was important to make the yard beautiful and welcoming with lots of plants. Little did I know at the time, but most of their plants started as propagations that grew to fill their entire yard!
