Today we’d like to introduce you to Marquita Jackson.
Hi Marquita, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
As a spouse of a soldier living in upstate New York, I felt so far away from family and friends. During this time, it was my son, my husband, and I. While living in New York I met a young lady by the name of Kendetta and she is still my best friend until this day. We began to hang out and get to know each other. There wasn’t much for us to do in a military town, and we began to have dreams of becoming Makeup Artist’s. I began to watch makeup tutorials on YouTube, and I mean tons of them. I bought a lot of makeup because I wanted to know how to do my own makeup and to begin my journey. I relocated to Tennessee to a small military town outside of Nashville. After I had my second son, I started a freelance course at Academy of Makeup Arts here in Nashville, TN. Suddenly, my life shifted before my eyes. I was now divorced and a single mom of two boys. Through my pain and struggles, I tried to survive on my own and raise my sons. I then began to birth my makeup career and my love for fashion. I graduated from school and wanted to learn more about being a Wedding Makeup Artist. I got connected with Mrs. Regina who was already working in that field and doing makeup for weddings. I was her assistant for five years, from 2016 until September 2021.
Because of all the knowledge, I have gained I now know who I am as a woman and my life has taken another shift. I have now started my journey as a Fashion Blogger. There is just something about being creative and unique in your own way and it just brings me so much joy. Fashion has allowed me to embrace my uniqueness. I just love how fashion makes me feel inside and out. I also have a beauty line that will be launching this year in 2021 called MaxBeauty Cosmetics.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road for me. I’ve been rejected and felt as though I wasn’t good enough at my craft. I also didn’t fit in with my peers because I knew I was different. Everything I went through was necessary for me. I would not be who I am if I didn’t go through struggles along the way. Now I can say I am an amazing woman, entrepreneur, creator, and mom. The list goes on because I know who I am. My past built me for my now and my future.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Makeup Artist and Fashion Influencer. I specialize in doing makeup for special occasions, weddings, and birthdays. I teach makeup classes for others to learn how to do their own basic makeup look. I also create fashion pieces and demonstrate how to put clothing items together and create your own fashionable look. I’m most proud of my confidence. I know that I can walk into a room with confidence and leave others feeling confident as well. I carry the light that has been placed within me. When other women see me, it is not just Marquita standing in the room. They can also see the light that God placed within me.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is my walk with God and my sons. Why you ask? Because God gives me peace and joy. I have the strength to be amazing to myself and my children through the peace that has been given to me.
